[Help Thread] 2x2 Discussion

i average about 10 seconds using Ortega how can i get faster still using Ortega and then when would be a good time to switch to something like CLL

I received very good advice some days ago in the race to sub-X at 2x2 thread. The exchange of posts starts here but if you continue reading there are some other tips in later posts.

Just practice and get faster at your algorithms, and you can try predicting oll like shadowslice e said. You can learn CLL whenever you want, but I would at least get sub 5, because you don't want to learn cll until you have some decent tps, layer building, and recognition, because it won't change much otherwise.

Hi guys, lately I've been really practicing 2x2 and I learned Ortega, and I've been averaging around 5-7 seconds, and my PB is 3.54. Should I start learning eg? If not what should I learn?

I've been using a Moyu Lingpo, but I've been getting lock-ups and catches like crazy, so I figured it's time for a change. Since I don't like setting up cubes I was looking to get a Cubicle Premium Weipo. I heard it was good is this true? Should I get a new 2x2? If so is the Cubicle Premium Weipo a good choice?

I'm not the best at 2x2, but definitely learn to two-look, and then eventually one-look solves. Practice this by using as much time you need to see as far into the solve as you can (start off with predicting OLL and then eventually PBL and AUF). Learn how your algs affect the cube.

You can start learning CLL if you want but one can easily get four second averages with purely Ortega.

Just practice Ortega. With a bit of practice u can easily get really fast. I average sub 3.2 with Ortega.
Personally I prefer the Fangshi Shishuang over all the other cubes (unpopular opinion) and most ppl say that the Dayan and the weipo are the best

If you want to get serious at 2x2 definately learn EG. If you aren't sure, you should still learn CLL and the concept of anti-CLL then see if you want to learn EG-1 and EG-2.

(using white for this but can be and should be any colour)
Build a white face with opposite edges so if you look at the side the colours should be red/orange and green/blue.
recognise CLL and do the case which gives you a Y-perm on top
R2 F2 R2.

Basically like a stepping stone towards EG-2
This is useful to know because quite a few EG2 algs are just anticll.

I assume that's because nobody has found better algs yet and the whole EG-2 started like antiCLL in the 1st place?

R2 B2 R2 F R U R' U' F'
R U2 R' U' R U' R B2 R2
I'm pretty sure these are the fastest algs we are gonna find for these cases. There are about 10 more algs I can thing of that are just anti cll with cancellations.

I should have said "nobody has found better algs yet or they don't exist" :)
Thanks for the clarification and the examples!

Well yes, but I don't think there are any better algs as now since you can gen the 20 fastest/shortest cases with all sorts of restrictions in under 10 seconds I think all the good ones have been filter in.
Edit: ninja'd

Umm yea so I learned how to solve the 2x2 and idk where to go from there. Help/guidance plz?
any links or tips would be good

If your current method is using only Sune to orient corners, then the first step is to learn the other 6 cases, from there you can learn Ortega/Verasano method, where you make a side, orient the opposite, then permute both layers with one alg
