[Help Thread] Should I switch to Roux?

There are other methods beside Roux, guys D:

Very true. I tried out ZZ for a while, and really liked it. The only reason I went back to CFOP was that I was getting 1 minute times instead of 25-30 second times. Petrus is also fun.
I'm actually reconsidering Roux now for 2H, while still using CFOP for OH (I hate M slices with OH, even though I can do them fairly fast with the table). My 2H average is like 27 now because I had to take a break for a sprained wrist and broken thumb, so instead of a 15 second difference for me, it's now only 8 seconds.

You have lots of pauses. I would go on and rabble on what to improve on, but it would be completely redundant due to the fact that hundreds (if not more) have been in your exact situation and have recieved the same advice. Just search through the internet and look for tips.

And I agree with the above posts. Learn Roux. If anything it is worth learning by just knowing how to solve the cube in a different way imo.
I plan to dabble with Roux, Petrus and zz with wv.

I say switch, CFOP is really bring after a while and a lot less open to innovation. This is coming from a 12 seconds CFOP user who wished he has switched a long time ago.

I want to say something along the lines of "once you go black, you can't go back" but about Roux, but I can't think of a good way to finish it.
When Roux you learn, you can't return...

It's definitely worth it to learn Roux. Even if it doesn't get you better times, you'll get more understanding of how the pieces move around, and that's always useful.

It's worth the experimentation in my opinion. I still use CFOP but I've been playing around with Roux a lot lately, and it's actually quite fun. Also, like qqwref you understand more about how pieces move around if you play around a bit. I initially learnt Petrus after LBL and then moved to CFOP but playing around with Petrus made it easier for me to drop my move count for cross+F2L.

Okay. Guess i could continue with Roux then. But the only problem i'm having is that, when i am creating the first two blocks. I do use alot of CFOP F2L Method that i got used to. I did not learn Algs for F2L. But is there any tips i could get to do that another way or?

Practise. Also check out Waffo's Rouxtorials, 5BLD and PandaCuber's Rouxtorials, and Donovan's Rouxtorials. Go to the reconstruction thread and look at Kirjava/BigGreen/5BLD's Roux solves. Hope that helped :)

It is never too late to do anything. If you want to switch to Roux, then do it. You should do what you think is best. I used Petrus for a year, and it was only after a whole year that I came to the conclusion that I sucked at building blocks and that I was never going to get really good at it. :fp Then I decided to ditch Petrus and take up CFOP.

Switching to roux?

I average around 35-35 seconds with fridrich (4-look last layer). I was thinking learning full oll-pll might cut down 5-6 seconds but 57+21 algs seems too daunting.
I can't seem to get any better with what I have. I can see myself getting to around 25 seconds with improved look ahead but I don't think I can get better than that as of now.
So I was thinking of switching to roux. Would it improve my times? I mean is it really hard to get sub-20 using roux? The method also seems more appealing to me than memorizing 78 algorithms as it has like 9-10 algs. I've tried learning it but the downside is I'll have to erase everything I've learnt in f2l to do well in roux. Block building is easy but it takes more moves as I am accustomed to aligning corner edges pair the f2l way without disturbing other corners or edges. So my thinking is rather limited, not at all innovative. I am not too good in tracking pieces but I can get better.

The question is is it worth switching to roux now? The method in itself appeals to me as it is intuitive and I hate memorizing stuff but I will keep with fridrich if it helps with my times. I know you can't say whether my times will drop and it will always get better with practice but the reason I am asking this is because once I begin roux, I don't think I am gonna come back to fridrich. I would love to hear from someone who has done this.

I tried switching to Roux when I was averaging around 21 - 22 secs with CFOP. I did Roux for 3 months full time. I managed to become sub 30. I switched back to CFOP because I realised I allready knew 57 OLL's and 21 PLL's and practically all hard F2L cases that it will be very hard to become faster with Roux. I enjoy practicing Roux and still do that every now and then. I think you are at a better stage to make the swicth. Without knowing all OLL and PLL's it will be rewarding to swicth to Roux.

I think that switching to roux will probably be good if you want less algs (although some experimental methods and approaches do have even fewer algs).

Don't worry about the block building. It will come with time. For now just consider all possible ways to build a block when doing it and do untimed solves with slow turning.
