[Help Thread] Finger Tricks Discussion and Help

Im trying to learn how to do fingerlicks and i dont know if its weird but i do flicks with my middle finger, then my index finger, while people do it the oppsosite way.
Its also awkward for me to do fingerflicks, so can anyone help me?

I think the term that you are specifically looking for is "double flick".
As far as I am aware, the way that most people do it is to flick with the index finger, and then follow with the middle. This is natural for me, since I usually do U moves with my index finger. The follow up U with my middle finger is the special part, not the initial flick.
As with most things, deliberately practicing it properly is going to be the best way to improve and get used to the correct way of doing it.

Chris olson also has a pretty comprehensive video on fingertricks in general, including double flicks.

also Jperm, I guess

Trying to watch top solvers at 0.25x speed can help with decoding some of the advanced fingertricks. Other than that, you just have to practice a lot to get used to different fingertricks.

soo i shouldnt use middle then index for double flicks?

I mess around with the cube a lot doing solves slower than I potentially could and as the nature of experimentation is, I sometimes discover new finger tricks.

My question is, how do I judge whether or not these finger tricks are actually viable or not? My rule of thumb has been to use the best finger tricks after browsing through multiple videos of algs, but sometimes none of them have my tricks.

I am afriad of setting bad habits in finger tricks that seem okay at my TPS but could kill me later when I'm faster.

If you need examples tell me. Currently I have 2 I'm not sure of, one involving B moves from a neutral grip for f2l and one in a G perm.

Just use it for a while and if they are too risky then ditch them
Risky fingertricks are sometimes faster. For example doubleflicking U' R' U' in T Perm is riskier but is faster, and with practice it can also be fairly consistent. "Ditching" fingertricks just because you're too noob to execute them is not a great idea unless you're okay being suboptimal

some finger tricks are too risky to use. For example doin the U D' in the Gc perm with a push with ring and index finger
