How much slower will my big cube game be if I switched to Roux (lets say I average 20 second on CFOP and Roux) Will my switching to Roux make my big cubes slower. By how much? Thanks

I don't think so, because if that's your CFOP average then you're quite experienced with CFOP already. Even if you were to switch to Roux it would not negatively affect your CFOP by much at all. I would argue it might have a worse effect on bigcubes if you switched to Roux earlier, because then you would have more difficulty with 3x3 stage (either you use Roux which is worse on bigcubes, or you have to use CFOP which you're relatively unskilled at). But if you switch once you're already good at CFOP then you will likely not even notice the difference in your bigcube times.

I average 20-22 with 4LLL CFOP. I am afraid that switching to roux now would make my big cube 3x3 stage several seconds higher. I may just switch.... Ill prob finish learning CLL for 2x2. Then learn 2 look CMLL(thats just like my edge only OLL and T or Y perm right) and L6e. And forget f2l.

As long as you continue to use CFOP for the 3x3 stage, I don't think it'll make you several seconds slower. If anything, if you learn 2LLL then your times will actually get better!

I dont think you are getting what I’m asking. Does using roux make 3x3 stage harder? If so by how much?
In my opinion roux isn’t really meant for big cubes. With just 3x3 it’s debatable but for big cubes I think cfop is better.

M slices are definitely a bit trickier on the 4x4, but I wouldn't let that discourage you too much. While CFOP-based reduction methods have been proven to get fast times, I'm sure Roux-based methods could achieve similar times with practice. I believe Kian @PenguinsDontFly is currently exploring the potential of Meyer, and is rapidly improving his 4x4 times so I wouldn't give up on Roux entirely for 4x4.

This is a question about CFOP users starting Roux.

I used cfop a long time, I do like it and have no desire to switch, yet Roux interests me. I'm not concerned with which method is "better", I simply would like to learn more about it, to do it correctly.

The difficulty I run into is not the block building, I enjoy that part, but when I reach CMLL, my mind wants to revert to cfop's oll/pll.

I'm only trying to learn 2 look cmll at the moment, but as soon as I see a case, something tells me just fix the two D edges and go on with oll/pll, instead of staying the course... I suppose it's just seeming like it's the easiest way at the moment.

I know this is freefop, lazy roux, or whatever it's considered to be, and I am trying to move past it.

I probably should abandon cfop until I learn, and approach it as a beginner, but the thing that makes me want to cube won't allow that. As soon as I start feeling frustrated, I'll want to just do some solves.

Has anyone else who's added Roux(not switched) gone through this or something similar?

Any advice?

Thank you!

I switched from cfop when I averaged like 25 and I had the same problem, what helped me is just doing untimed slow solves where i force myself to do roux.

I haven't done roux seriously outside of doing some L6E stuff, but I have switched to ZZ for OH and I get your problem. I find myself doing cross instead of line way too often, so I would just say slow it down, don't time yourself, and keep saying in your mind "I'm doing roux, not CFOP". That helps a little bit for me just so I don't subconsciously look for a cross.

You can try just using the CMLL trainer, and practice a bit of LSE only.

It will help you try to avoid the OLL/PLL outlook, and help you find a different way of finishing L10P.

Good luck, F U E F2 E F' E2 F' U' F'!

Well Roux is block building so personally I would say get sub 25 at fridrich before attempting it...

but that's just me.
I agree. You have to do intuitive block building in roux, so it will be easier if you are more comfortable with F2L.
