[Help Thread] Should I switch to Roux?

I switched to Roux when my average for CFOP was around 18 or so I'd say. I average around 15-16 now with Roux and about 16-17 with CFOP (which I just started practicing again recently) without full CMLL, PLL, or OLL.

In all honesty, I would probably be a lot faster than I am now if I had just stuck with CFOP, but I wasn't really having much fun with it at the time so I decided to change methods. If you try Roux out and like solving with it, I think that should be the deciding factor - it was for me and I'm glad I learned it.

I thought CFOP was 'teh suckz' in terms of fun, and even considered quitting cubing as a whole. I only averaged ~30 back then. I average ~12 with Roux and just sup-20 with CFOP (which I rarely practice) now.

Thankfully, I found Roux. Despite my previous detest for slice and wide moves, I really started liking the method, and switched (and my times dropped rapidly).
But, really, I personally think it doesn't matter how fast you are with a method, you can switch any time. Better to have fun and be slow than to be fast and be bored (though being fast is neat, too ;)), IMO. I'm not saying nobody likes CFOP, by the way, just that I (personally) dislike it.

It's all up to your personal preference, and it's essentially a question nobody else can answer for you. I do suggest experimenting with the "Big 4/5," but which one you want to stick with is your choice.

I'd suggest you to start playing around with roux and see if you like it. If you do, then you should switch :)

You can always go back to your old method, and you won't be slower than you are now :)

I average ~24 with CFOP and am currently learning Roux... I think it is a very interesting method and would be worth learning just for fun, even if you don't want to use it in comp.

Should I switch?

So, lately I've been considering switching my method to Roux or Petrus, from Fridrich (f2l and 2 look). My average with fridrich is 42 seconds. The thing is, I don't feel like Im getting much faster with fridrich (been practicing pretty lightly for about 2.5 months). How long would it take me to get down to my current average with a new method, and should I switch?

tl;dr I want to switch to Roux/Petrus. Should I?

You just posted a thread about how to get faster with Fridrich and well all replied the same thing.

1. Cross on bottom
2. Learn more LL algs
3. Work on F2L efficiency (learn algs for hard cases, ect)
4. Be sure that you are looking ahead

Switching methods won't guarantee that you're going to get faster. Switch methods if you want but the method isn't what's causing you to be slow.

If you feel as if those methods would be good for you then by all means switch. It shouldn't take too long at your level but if I were you I would use BOTH roux and CFOP to interchange which you use if you have a bad start for one.

I have been using petrus and have been really liking it so I think I might swich since my times are the same.

It will take you x number of days to get used to your new method, because everyone is the same and that amount of time can be calculated for everyone.

You want to switch to this new method so I think switching to the method would be good because it's something that you want to do.

Use whatever method you feel comfortable with. If you like CFOP, keep it. If you like Roux, switch. If you like Petrus, switch. Just dont worry about your times. You have to give these things time.

Purely out of curiosity, how long have you been using Roux?

You can switch and complain and switch and complain and switch and complain. The cycle is endless unless you stop switching or stop complaining. Personally the latter is where you should start.

Also, the fact that you put tl;dr for 4 sentences frightens me.

Gimme Some 3x3x3 Tips. (Should I switch to Roux?)

Okay, i just picked up the cube again after 2 months of not cubing at all.

Here is a vid of me now, And i could use some tips and so on on how i can improve.

My best solve so far, are 29.53 Sek.

Ill also like to know if its to late switching to Roux. As that would improve my times after a while. Its Funnier after my opinion. And it has a bright future.

This: Not cubing for 2 months because CFOP is non-fun
That: Switch to Roux and get slower times for a while (maybe even not improve at all)
It is your choice: This or That.
