Random Cubing Discussion

reduction idea:

reduction is an ok method to begin, the problem is finding edge on top and bottom and constantly rotating the cube because of that.
yau fix this by solving cross edges and then finishing with 3-2-3, but solving centers with limitations is hard to get used to.

what about a mid-term?

if you hate reduction and don't want to commit with yau, what about pairing cross edges after making centers, solving them and then finishing like yau with 3-2-3?

(I'm pretty a user suggested something like this some time ago, but it's an idea. I can't find it tho)

random competition idea: two competitions. the first one is called "Unlimited Cubes but No 3x3", which has every event except 3x3 and its variations (oh, 3bld, mbld, and fmc). the other is called "Unlimited 3x3 but No 3x3", which has every 3x3 variant, but not regular 3x3.

Another random competition idea: Non-WCA events only. Feet, 4x4 OH, Speed FMC, Mirror Blocks, Master Pyra, Redi Cube, FTO, Kilominx, Gigaminx, and 15 puzzle.

There used to be a site that made those types of competitions

Isn’t that Hoya? Make 4 centers, then cross edges, then last 2 centers, then 3-2-3. I recently switched from yau to hoya and I’m liking 4x4 a lot more. I dropped my average from about 1:15 to 1:10 just by switching. I also got my first sub 1 the day after switching to hoya. It’s the cross edge pairing and L2C that makes it faster for me.

It's similar to Hoya, but worse.

Or you could do Hoya

i was recently thinking about the fact that square-1s don't have to be perfectly cubic to be wca legal (i think?), so i came up with this. it's too silly of an idea to warrant its own post (or a good drawing for that matter), so i'm putting this bad drawing here.

@1x1 wr holder! This should be your next 3d printing challenge.

Current Square-1s aren't cubic to beginn with. But even without speed in mind it doesn't make sence to have a narrow slice and wide layers.
