Does anybody know a good last 4 centers method. I have issues with other methods I have tried and couldn't quite get the hang of it so my last 4 centers are suffering. Thanks.

Try half-centers. Tutorial in cubing world.

Use it sparingly though, if there's no half-centers at all, then just do regular.

Maybe he doesn't use Yau and is new to the redcution method on 4x4. If so, I believe there are plenty good tutorials on Youtube for a "beginner's" method (which normally is reduction).

Maybe he doesn't use Yau

He said last 4 centres. That's a step I'm the Yau method. Ergo, he either uses Yau, or it's a typo in his post. Either way, the previous poster was correct to assume he uses Yau, not reduction.

I'll add to previous posts what has been suggested to me previously, and has helped with L4C:

Choose your starting centre and stick with it, I used to be indecisive and work on multiple centres simultaneously, which is clearly inefficient.

Try to look ahead and choose 2nd centre wisely. Same with 3rd.

Solving 3rd centre will automatically solve the 4th. This may sound obvious, but completely ignoring one centre can really help!

wat
You also solve the last 4 centers using normal reduction.

I thought "Last 4 Centres" was a specifically Yau term, as the last four centres are solved as a separate stage, after 3 cross edges and before the 4th... and that in normal reduction you just do 'centres'. My bad!

Thanks, I never thought about completely blocking out one color.

I learnt Yau yesterday and I al stuck here, yesterday also same thing happened so I thought it was my mistake and scrambled it again and now also same thing happened, (see attachment)

What am I do wrong and is there any algorithm to fix this?
Thanks in advance

This is very common. (R U R' F R' F' R) Uw' (R U R' F R' F' R) will solve it with the two edges in the front-right and -left.
Sometime you won't need the flip the pair on the right, so you just do Uw' (R U R' F R' F' R) instead. I recommend watching a few redux tutorials, they will cover this case as the end of edge-pairing.

Thanks a Ton!
Can you guide me to where I can find all the redux algorithms??
Cubewhiz is not helpful :(

Help Needed: Sub 1:00 barrier on 4x4....

I need help breaking the sub 1:00 barrier on 4x4. My breakdown is:

4 sec first two center
15 sec F3CE
9-10 L4C
3-5ish last cross edge
15 last 8 edges
25 - 30ish 3x3 stage

Cube Moyu Aosu

I decided to learn Yau today, and timed the splits of 25 solves. Here they are:

2 centers+3 edges: 16.08
last 4 centers: 15.77
finish cross: 5.29
last 8 edges: 21.46
3x3 stage: 23.82

Except for 3x3 stage, which I know is terrible (I average 17 on 3x3), which stage do I need the most work on?

You should expect that time for 3x3 stage. You can't turn as fast on a 4x4, recog isn't as easy if you're used to looking at a 3x3 (as you've only just learned Yau I assume you do a lot of 3x3), and you have parity. Plus you have to recog PLL parity which makes things even worse.
Idk much about 4x4 splits though, so sorry but I can't help you for them. I think L8E or finishing cross is probably what needs the most practise, but as I said, I'm not the best person to listen to.

^I've been using OBLBL for about 2 years, and without much improvement for a while, even getting worse sometimes. I tried Yau at some point last year, but gave it up soon after because OBLBL was more fun (4x4 is my second favorite event behind 3x3; I do about the same amount of each). Now I'm getting sick of having seen 1:05-1:20 times for over a year and a half and I know Yau has the potential to be really fast (dur).

Ah, I forgot about parity when I was looking at my times lol. I got OLL parity in like 75% of my Yau solves yesterday ;_; I'd like to get my 3x3 time down to around 20 soon because cross is eliminated, even with the parities.

I looked at one of my solves and realized that I pause A LOT between steps. I probably lose 7 seconds per solve due to pausing during transitions. Does anybody 4x4 Yau user have any tips for looking ahead? (what to look for, etc)

Yeah, unlucky about the OLL parities... they can ruin good solves, especially if they're as bad as mine :p I think 20 would be quite a hard goal, as it's not far from your 3x3 times at all, but it depends on the cube. If it's a lot worse than your 3x3 (I know my 4x4 is...), you'd probably never get to a 20s average.

I also have problems with this, especially in the transition between the last cross edge and 6-2 edge pairing (which is what I use). Sometimes I lose as much as 7 seconds on just that part. I'd also like to see if anyone has answers to this.
