[Help Thread] 2x2 Discussion

I was sub 3 with CLL almost immediately because of the skills I picked up from being reasonably fast with Ortega.

It doesn't really matter when you start, because everyone is different and they progress in different ways. What matters is the amount of effort you put into practice.

I took a route similar to you though, rather than Rami.

I used to like 2x2, and I got down to a 7 second average with LBL, but I started hating it. I sort of want to get back into it, but I need some motivation. Are there any benefits to getting better at 2x2 that will help other events? Or just general tips?

No real benefits except for one looking and fast tps. Also, I heard many CLL's are common 3x3 OLL's so they are easy to learn. Learn Ortega. I average 7 seconds with LBL too and I am gonna switch to Ortega now. I <3 2x2 and 3x3 and 4x4. <3 Small Cubes

Ok, so I learnt Ortega, but I cannot recognize the PBL's How can I get faster?
Learn to recognize the PBLs? A small trick is to remember the permutation of your D face during inspection. It means you just need to recognize your U permutation to know the PBL and as you improve you will learn to predict that as well.

What's the best 2x2? I am thinking about the V-Cube 2 pillowed or the Dayan. So out of these which are the best and even so, what is a good 2x2 in the whole area?
Also check out my cubing channel, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgflMzG8FcQGaj34uj641VA
V cube 2 is not very highly ranked. Top 3 are probably Dayan, Fangshi Shuangren and Moyu Lingpo. I prefer Fangshi 55mm, but with those three it comes down to personal preference.

Sure, but I still can't recognize any PBL's during a solve.

The way to determine which case is which on each layer is to look for opposite colours (i.e. colours that go opposite each other on the cube: red-orange and blue-green). Imagine you can see two opposite colours on the F face (e.g. blue and green), and another pair of opposites on the R face (e.g. orange and red). If you have two pairs of opposites like this, then you have an opposite/diagonal swap on that layer.
If you have an adjacent swap, but can't see the bar, it is easy to confuse this with a diagonal swap. If you can't see a bar, you have to look for opposites again. There will be one pair of opposites at least. Look at the other two stickers. If on the other face there isn't another pair of opposites, we know it isn't a diagonal swap, so we must have an adjacent swap. The two pieces that are swapped are the ones with the opposite colours on them; the bar is opposite that side.

I couldn't understand anything.:( Please help

I'd just try to eliminate any pauses. Solves like the first and last should be one looked. The AUF recognition takes some time. I'd try to cut down in those.

I retried the first and last solves WITH one look and I got 1.134, and 1.911. I'll work on AUF during today's ao100.

15% one-looked seems a bit low. I would use as much inspection time as possible to find a good solution, don't limit yourself to 15s.

I don't know how much you know, but AUF for CLL is crucial.

Yeah, I'm working on one-looking. I just started practicing 2x2 a few days ago for the first time in 3 months. I'll try out using as much inspection as I need and then bring it down. I can execute full CLL, but cases, such as the U case where OLL parity can solve. I know a little AUF.

That's the best way to do it. Usually if you have a block it's onelook able.

I have a question now, I'm globally around 2.5 with only CLL (my ao100 is 2.36), I can onelook about half the time if I try hard enough. With solely EG1 and CLL is it possible to onelook 100%, and possibly average sub 2?
