Hello, I am new to this whole forum and cubing world, but I thought this was the best place to ask questions sooo ya.

So I've been learning the Roux method for the past few months and my average is about 55 seconds. It takes around 45 seconds just to do the first and second block. I've tried to lower cube rotations and the amount of moves I use, but that kinda slows me down. Any suggestions??

Edit:
Ooops, my average is 65, not 5. and FB and SB is around 42 secs now

I started cubing about 3 weeks ago, never learned the beginners method, watched some one at the airport solve with the Roux method and he showed me how to do it, after a few tries I was able to get it by myself. I started out with an average time of 3 minutes, 3 weeks later I'm averaging right above 40s.. My slowest time is block building on average 20-25 seconds to finish both sides, I've moved pretty far in 3 weeks, i do on average 2-300 solves throughout the day if I can, a lot more on weekends. Any suggestions to help with block building? or should i just keep practicing with trying to look ahead and plan blocks?

I think that it is very cool that you got into cubing. I started cubing 4 years ago when i decided to learn one day with my grandpa. I stopped cubing for a while and just picked it back up in December when I saw a friend doing it at school. I encourage you to learn 2x2, 4x4, and 5x5. I personally do not use roux method but i can give you some advice. I am currently learning a bunch of different methods, and if you feel that this is your method than you should stick with it. Practice makes you better but you know this great method but you dont feel like you are improving I suggest that you go on youtube and look up "Brody the Cuber 10 tips to get better". This video helped me get a little better at the cube. I know what it is like to be in your position. I am currently in it and I can not figure out how to average under 40. If you need help on anything else please reply and I will try to get back to you as fast as I can. Good Luck!

I dunno if this will help as you seemed to have already learned the method. But i have recently posted a video on roux.
. It is designed for beginners using a dl dr variant of roux. I personally find that watching other explain something i already know in a different manner often gives me a deeper understanding. I am currently working on documentation and a web site for this video.

So, I'm trying to get sub 20.

Do you think it's better to learn CMLL or 2-look/Permutations?

I already know two look, and I'm curious whether permutations would be a useful next step (I'm working on blocks presently and I want to plan ahead) in addition to or instead of full cmll?

The heck is "permutations"? Do you mean something like memorising how the CMLL algs you use affect LSE?

I'd say 1-look CMLL has a better payoff.
