[Help Thread] What should I learn next?

Thank you, everyone for your suggestions ! Sorry I'm new to speedsolving forums so I didn't know who was talking about me xD. And sorry for the bad English as English is not my native language.

Dude, your English is really good, don't worry about it. if someone told you that your first post was bad English then that person is a ****.

I honestly and literally would not really have known English was not your first language if you didn't say.

F2L Intuitive or Algs

Solve:

cross: 13
F2L: 33
2 look OLL: 15
2 look PLL: 19

total: 1:20mins.

Should I learn alg F2L or 3look LL?

help please and thanks

I say 3 look LL because intuitive f2l speed will come with practice. After you learn PLL and OLL you can find more efficient algs for some of ur f2l :)

OK thanks guys I'm going to learn 3look LL
Learn both. It's not a binary choice, you can work on more than one thing at a time.

Start learning the rest of the PLLs, and also work on making sure your cross and F2L solutions are efficient (i.e. minimize moves while still being easy to execute). Study algs and reconstructions to understand how they work (but don't just learn F2L algs without understanding how they work). Do mostly untimed solves - only time yourself once a day to see how you're progressing.

Thank you, everyone :). BTW any other suggestions for me?
This may be a general tip but I thought it would be helpful.

Try to find more efficient ways to solve F2l and cross. Spend time doing untimed solves and experiment with different ways to solve the cross and f2l. Try to lookahead as far as possible. When I was averaging about 40 seconds, all I did was spam TPS and try turning as fast as I can. Try planning your whole cross during inspection even though it will take more than 15 seconds. You will eventually just get better at it.

If you want to improve, there is one thing that you have to do above all others. It is more important than any of the things that I said above.

PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Believe me, practice makes perfect.

Hope it helped. :)

I've been cubing since 2 months now. My best is 26.63 and average of 5 is 36.56. What do you guys think? Am I doing good? And if not, what should I do to improve? I know full PLL and 2 look OLL. I think I'm doing pretty well. Thanks!

I would say learn look ahead turn slow
2 sided pll mesmerization
Do cross blind
Practice u should be sub 30 an have a sub 20 pb single

Getting sub 20 average is kinda hard
It is like the 10th grade of cubing

on the warp scale (a very old infrequently used concept) sub-20 is only warp 3 which is not too bad and sub-30 is warp 2 so it shouldn't be too hard to get it as an average. Maybe ~6 months of sort of cubing (around 15-20 solves/day most days or around 100 a week)

Speedcubing Optimal OLL Theory

Hi everyone.

It's been a few months since I've solved a Rubik's cube due to ill health. Previously I could solve the 2x2 probably sub 6 and 3x3 sub 30 as well as the 4x4 in a couple of mins. I know 4-look LL and F2L. I've just started solving my 3x3 again and something occurred to me which now seems very obvious so I wanted to check if I'm right.

When I do F2L I've been practising look ahead and it occurred to me while doing 2-look OLL that I should probably have learned the algorithms so that I can see the top layer for as much of the time to allow easier look ahead. When I learned the algorithms I just found the fastest way of carrying it out even if this meant I wouldn't easily see the top while solving.

So basically I'm wondering, should I relearn 2-look OLL so that I can see the top layer for as much as possible while solving to allow for better look ahead?

Thank you!

Ummm... I don't really get your question... You said you do 2- look OLL but are asking whether you should learn 2-look OLL algs?

I think he's asking about transitioning from speed-optimal 2-look OLL algs to algs that provide better look ahead.

Personally, I think it doesn't matter that much and even the regular fast algs can provide pretty good look ahead.

Maybe my understanding of the terminology isn't perfect (it's all still coming back to me). Basically I used Badmephisto's algs and compared with the alg site (forgotten the name) then I found the best way (fastest way) to carry out the moves but not necessarily adhering to the exact alg as I might change the x y movements for example. Also I think algs don't tell you if you were to move your right thumb onto the up face but kept your left on the front face for example (only if you moved both thumbs to the top face) so some things are open to interpretation. This was a few months back so I might be a little confused.

No, the algs don't tell you what fingertricks to use so you can look at the algs and see how you would fingertrick them (this has actually led to some of my algs being quite unorthodox as I sometimes use my little finger for the last U if I do R U R' U (this is during sune)- I guess this happened because I only ever learned 2 fingertricks- ring/third finger for M-moves and thumbs for F/F's but other than that I pretty much came up with my own which means that sometimes I will use my little finger).

so i've learnt the h set for COLL, which set should i learn next? i don't get pi very often and i probably wont learn the sune sets, so headlights, bowtie or chameleon?

sunes arent that bad, people just dont take the time to find good algs. Do Pi next, recog is easy and algs are pretty nice.
