One-Answer WCA Competition and Regulations Question Thread

Can I use a cube with the yellow stickers taken off?

No. The following regulations apply:

3d) Puzzles must have colored parts, which define the color scheme of the puzzle and must be one and only one of the following: colored stickers, colored tiles, colored plastic, or painted/printed colors. All colored parts of a puzzle must be made of a similar material.

3d2) The colors of the colored parts must be solid, with one uniform color per face. Each color must be clearly distinct from the other colors.

Essentially you'd be trying to use the plastic color as one of the six colors, which means you would be using two colored parts: colored stickers and colored plastic. You can only have one type of colored part.

So I would have to put black stickers on it?

Yeah, or any color distinct from the other five. Also, be careful that the new stickers are a similar size/shape/texture to the old ones:

3j) Puzzles must be clean, and must not have any markings, elevated pieces, damage, or other differences that significantly distinguish any piece from a similar piece. Exception: a logo (see Regulation 3l).

hello I'm going to go on my first comp in a month and don't know what I should learn for 3x3.(CFOP)
I already know the most algs of PLL .

Should I learn OLL or F2L?

So at the end of some scrambles, I see a rotation like x or y’. What’s the point? At a competition there’s no way to know what orientation they put it in the box or when they turn it over onto the table before the solve. Am I missing something?

You're right that there's already some non-determinism, but it's to make it explicit that the competitor should have no knowledge of the orientation, at all. This way, even if a scrambler always puts the cube in the cover in a consistent manner, there isn't going to be a bias as to what orientation the competitor will receive.

This is much more relevant for blindsolving than for sighted solving, which is why BLD scrambles have the rotations (444) or wide moves (333, 555) at the end and normal scrambles don't.

Ahh… I get it. I only do BLD, so I never noticed sighted doesn’t have that. Thanks

I would like to know if it is possible to use a Rubik's Brand at the competition, even though we all use speedcubes for competitions? Are Rubik's Brands even permitted at competitions? I was simply curious.
There's no restriction on what brand of cube you use, as long as it's functionally identical to a standard puzzle. (And within reason; you're probably not going to be allowed to use a 1 cm cube or a 30 cm cube.) So yes, Rubik's Brand cubes are permitted.

For the sake of your own hands and wrists though, please consider getting a better cube.

1. Pls i need help because my main is a white based cube
2. Im starting to realize that White Based cubes are dying every year that passes, and not being restocked cubes with this color. Are white based cube underrated or they deserve the rating of now?

Depends on your personal liking. Of course they are allowed in competitions, any colored base cube is allowed. I mean, the WRM MagLev 2021 is purple based.

They are extremely underrated. They look so cool, and I wish I could buy a recent flagship in white.

they were popular like 10 years ago but they hinder recognition, which is probably its downfall and is also partly the reason stickerless cubes have done so well

I couldn't find a comp like that in your area, but there are 3 in Massachusetts, two in june and one in may, and the june 25 comp may be your best bet.
The Cambrige summer challenge has FMC, 4bld, 5bd, and multi-bld, hosted on the 25 of june.https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/competitions/CambridgeSummerChallenge2022
The May comp is already closed on regristration.
The other june comp, Fast in Mass, has 3x3, 2x2, oh, megaminx, pyraminx and square-1.
