[Help Thread] Finger Tricks Discussion and Help

So now my average is round about 1min 21sec w/o finger tricks , i need help with these finger tricks cause i usually can't do them for e.g
R U R' U R U2 R'

I can do the R U R' part very very fast but when i try to do the other part i usually have to change my hand position .

U R U' R' U' F' U F
and
U' L' U L U F U' F'

so can anyone guide me with this :o

For R U R' U R U2 R', try this:

For your edge inserts, most folks eat the cube rotation, like so:

U R U' R' U' y' L' U L

Hi Ahmed,
nice to see that your times are improving!
Didn't see you for a while and was worried the floods may have gotten to your area...

For the 2nd layer edges there is not a lot you can do apart from the cube rotation so the final F* moves change into R* or L* moves.
Just try it a few times very conciously and then it comes (and feels) very naturally and you don't even need to think about it.

thanks maggot teller for the links :) i just used to get stuck where he uses the pink finger but now i got how its done :D
and thanks cubenovice though the place where i live is safe from floods but you never know when nature strikes ;) . I just want to get down to 1min cause i have started to hate this LBL method cause for middle layer i have to sometimes do extra moves which slows down so F2L will be good , i have understood how F2L is done and i often do it off session

I love all of teller's fingertricks, but personally I can't do them. If you're having trouble with Sune, you can do what teller posted, or you can execute R U R' normally, then do the next U with your left hand. This lets you do R U2 R' without having to regrip your right hand.

For R U R' part I do it normally U with my right ring finger R normally U2 is broken up into U' with my right thumb and U' with left index finger then normal R' :D

Oh, also, for edge inserts I use: R U R U R U' R' U' R' and its inverse. I find it's much faster than the slightly shorter alg with a rotation.

There are 3 schools of thought that I know:

1. Petrus - (R U R')(U R)(U2 R') - somewhat like teller except latter combines last 2 into 1 fingertrick sort of.
2. Bob Burton's (R U R' U)(R U2' R') - which is like Frogmanson described
3. Robert Yau's thread has a R U R' U R U2 R' with second U done by left index finger.

I started with Petrus but changed to Bob Burton's for a long time.

How I perform Sune:
RUR' normally then U is caught by my right ring finger then R U2 R' is normal (the U2 is a double flick with right index/middle fingers)

I might start doing the second U with an index finger push like Teller does though, but keep the double flick :P

I learned Gc and Gd tonight for right hand (I mirrored Ga and Gb to my left so I learned 4 algs for the price of 2 :P) and I'm starting to do the u with an index finger push, it's much easier and much more stable.

How to practice fingers trick look more prettier?

my ft look not so good :( you guys can look at my fingers trick on this video and know what my ft is!
:fp
idk how to practice to made my ft look more better?

Prettier? Really? Cool. Here are some guidelines:

- Turn off the timer and slow down. Make your execution something you would WANT to watch. Love the sight of what you are doing.

- Figure out if an overshoot or undershoot will serve the next move best.

- See where your fingers land when you complete a turn...if it's not good, try a different grip. Often this means starting at the end of the algorithm and working backward toward the beginning.

- x, y and z rotations can be game changers at various points in an alg

- Learn to push, not just flick...get creative

- Bring your thumb and pinkie into the game

- Always try new algs...you just never know!

You actually don't look bad at all...nice long fingers, some nice tilting movements. I thought I saw a standard headlights alg in there done the "standard" way and it was quite graceful considering its standardness.

Seems to me that the only thing you need to add is MOAR SPEED.
You're doing fine in terms of what turns you should do. You just need to improve your speed. It seems to me that your LL turning speed is just as fast as you F2L turning speed.
While I do advocate for turning slow and maximizing looking ahead in the F2L when it comes to the OLL and PLL you should really maximize your turning speed.
Practice and see how fast your LL is. Judging from the video your LL is almost one third (1/3) of your entire solve which could easily be improved.

Using the U2 finger trick??

Using the U2 doubleflick, forces me to regrip the cube (no rotation, losing grip)
for the next move which takes valuable time. For example the R perm: R' U2 R U2 R' F R U R' U' R' F' R2 U'.
Someone here using this finger trick? Is it worth training?

If you can't do U2 right now, and are learning to do it, then also learn U2'.

For example, that R perm becomes: R' U2 R U2' R' F R U R' U' R' F' (index finger push on RFU) R2, which is very smooth and requires two very minor regrips, rather than the larger ones needed when only using double flick in one direction.
