[Help Thread] Finger Tricks Discussion and Help

Make sure you get some good algorithms, like ones off the wiki. You can be as creative as you want with your finger tricks, I would suggest doing them slowly and "working out the flow" of the algorithm. I do not know the method you use, but try to hold the cube so the main faces that you are turning are easily accessible.

Hey guys I have been practing quite a bit and I can finnaly get under a minute! I started cubing the middle of september, and I just wanted to know if this is a good time frame or if I am really slow?
My best time lucky was 30.9 seconds
non-lucky was 38.7 seconds
and average is 58 seconds
I am having a really hard time doing F and F' I usually regrip and use my index finger to do F and ring finger to do F' of my right hand. Which has to be extremely slow. I made a youtube video which hopefully you guys could watch and give me some tips :D Thanks guys!

Does re-lubing your cube affect YOUR finger tricks?

Hello.

I recently just re-lubed my 3x3 with Jig-a-Loo and I've noticed that some of my finger tricks are overshooting. My U2 double-flick constantly over-turns. Before lubing, I was able to quite accurately double-flick. My H-Perm is also really weird now, I can't smoothly do U face turns after double-flicking the M slice.

I think that this is because I waited too long to re-lube my cube. I got too used to it being harder to turn and now I overshoot. That, or I might just need to get used to the new turning speed.

anyway, I was just wondering if this has this ever happened to any of you guys. So yar...

it might wear down a while and go back to its first lubed state.

honestly.. i dont notice a thing :)

i actually prefer the "just-lubed", smooth, wet feeling over the normal dry, loud feeling. personally, i get faster alg execution since i have a pretty rough style, but i'd still only get 14-17's.. on a REALLY good day.

For me after the 1st day of lubing the cube will be bad for timing for some reasons, maybe the lube is still sticky or it overshoots.

But it gets better from 2nd day onwards.

It happens to me too. It feels like it's overturning. It's better than before at any rate :D

When i do an U turn with my right pointer finger (or how you call it), I use my left tip of my pointerfinger to stop the U layer on the right time, I don't move my left finger away while I am turning, I am just holding it on the back of the U layer.

My U layer never overturns :D

try it, maybe it will help

how can i practice my finger tricks

my average 3x3 is around 16-17sec, ave F2L around 10s, my look ahead is quite good but my finger tricks is very bad, so my LL is bad, too. Can you give me some tips and techniques?

you can see my FT in my clip avg of 5 15.42:

p/s: the times are:13.22 16.54 15.68 12.80 18.88
i used AV

Well, for the A perm:

x R' U R' D2 R U' R' D2 R2

You can do the D2's with your ring finger. other things like that.

Personally, I think that finger tricks account for only part of you're problem. At some points, you're look ahead seems to be lacking, and you're making unnecessary pauses. Also, before doing OLL, try not to do pointless U turns, they waste time. I see you going U U' a lot.

For your finger tricks:

Hope that I helped you a bit!
