[Help Thread] Finger Tricks Discussion and Help

Is it normal to be slower when beginning finger tricks?

So, I was averaging about 2 minutes with the Dan Brown Method that I had been doing for a couple days, then I switched to the beginner method Badmephisto teaches, because I read on these forums it was better. It took me a couple days to get back to 2 minutes and I felt like I knew it very well but wasn't getting any faster so I started trying to learn finger tricks and now I am WAAAYYY slower.

Should I keep going with them or switch back to what I did faster?
Thanks

Sorry for the essay length ^_^

:D:D:D

Keep going. You'll be able to execute various triggers once you get used to them. (:

Badmephisto mentions his beginner methods are intended to be simple, not necessarily fast. Visit his Youtube channel and look at his other videos (like Cross and advanced F2L) to help with speed. But yes, finger tricks are faster than wrist turns -- unless your cube is way too stiff.

haha dan brown method.. good time sor some of my friends. ok im sure you know the "algorithm": Ri Di R D i use it as the famous R U R' U' (" ' " means "i" get used to it sorry.) it can be done very quickly and is often writen as "(R U R' U' )" all "triggers" are also called finger tricks and the"()" mean can be performed as a finger trick or quickly.

Finger-tricks as I have seen them on video were never of any great use to me on my old cube that all but falls apart unless I have controlled and precise turns - so no cutting corners. Not until I adopted the Fridrich method for the F2L did I managed to get consistent times under 1:30. Currently I use 10 algorithms from the Petrus solution for the top layer, which were really fast to learn, but probably are not very efficient. I am now trying to customize these algs to fit my preference of turning.

I used to solve the cube with the LL on the D face until I started averaging about 30 secs (obviously not at all using any finger tricks). Then I realised I couldn't progress too much unless I changed. The first month or so after that, I averaged about 35s. Now using finger tricks, I nearly average sub-25.

Btw, all the times I clocked at the only official comp I competed in are with the LL on the D face.

@mande,
It must have been tough to change to LL on U face. How were you solving LL before?(I mean 2L OLL + 2 L PLL or EO,EP,CO,CP etc?).Do you now solve cross+F2L on the bottom?

It wasn't too tough to change...it just required practice. And I knew about 40 OLL's and all the PLL's at the time, so usually it was a 2 look LL. Now I still do cross on the U face, but the rest on the bottom.

Yea there wayy faster, when i got into fingertricks i was slow, and my times got worse, and then i praticed them and i have much much better times now.

Are they hard to learn? I tried for a couple of weeks and got bored of failure. I'm not that dexterous, will that make a difference?

I can cube okay...

Wow thanks for all the replies.

I tried to learn finger tricks but my Walmart cube was so hard to turn I couldn't and so I sanded and lubed it and easily learned finger tricks.

Now my times keep dropping.

I was at about 2:20 average when I made this thread now I am at about 1:30 and a best time of 1:10. :D:cool::D:cool::D:cool::D:cool:

lol.

EDIT: I meant 2:02 not 2:20

YUP!

Fingertricks should really only slow you down if your cube can't turn so well, and/or your fingertricks seem irregulay.

That's an INSANE drop in time, a minute? Wow... Have fun.

My cube turns well and I can perform finger tricks on it. But sometimes it will pop, which is very annoying. What can I do?

Sites for Finger Tricks

youtube is blocked so wondering whether you have any sites for finger tricks and in algorithms do brackets mean finger tricks? thanks:confused:

Well... Finger tricks actually come on their own. Just practise and they will come naturally. Just find algs which are finger friendly.
