For one, the scramble wasn't random state. It was a hand scramble, so even if I was turning completely randomly, I was still applying random moves rather than scrambling the cube to a random state. Also, it likely wasn't entirely random turns, just what I considered random.

The psuedo layer solution is the same amount of moves as the Ortega alg (9 if you use the best alg for the CLL)

There are no CLL solutions worth doing over the PBL alg on that scramble.

As someone in 2x2 discord, I have not seen anyone mention pseudo layers. I have only used it a couple times in my solves, when the scramble came with a premade pseudo layer. Any other time, I do not care to even use the technique.

CLL recognition is a technique to recognize any EG case

It doesn't just apply to CLL

I used Ortega before. But I haven’t used it seriously in months. So it would be faster for me to just do CLL.
