to your second question:
first of all it's rly hard to do an EOCross during inspection time if you just start with ZZ. People alrdy have Problems with only EO, thats why you normally split EO + Line into 2 substeps when you start learning ZZ. Starting with EO + Cross is even harder.
2nd point is the question, WHY you wanna do EOCross. If you do an EOCross it's still CFOP-F2L, just RUL-based, there is nothing different to that what you have done before, the only point is, that you increase your movecount alot (since EOCross needs a shitload of moves [7.51 in average compared to 5.81 normal cross and 6.13 EOLine], as well as RUL-based Fridrich-F2L [28.1 in average as optimal solutions]) and you only get oriented edges at the end for it. I would highly recommend not to do EOCross when you start ZZ, just try from the beginning to get used to ZZ-F2L, because CFOP with EO is still CFOP.
there's a move-count analysis for this: http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/s...F2L-Move-Count&p=342121&viewfull=1#post342121
to your first question:
i dont wanna say learn this or learn that. OCLL/PLL and COLL/EPLL nearl got the same movecounts 19.13 to 18.53 in average. On the other side people normally got faster recognition if they stick to OCLL/PLL, on the other hand COLL/EPLL got 1/12 PLL-skip, with Phasing it's 1/4 PLL-skip. If you aim to take the road to 1LLL I highly recommend to learn COLL, cuz you'll need them in ZZLL anyway later and only doing PLL if you get an OLL-skip. Some people mixing both of this, by doing COLL except from the Sune-Cases, it's just a matter of what you like and what you dislike.
