I'll start with some background knowledge:
My main method is white cross on bottom, intuitive F2L, 2-look OLL and full PLL. With these, my personal best (no skips) is 30.56 and I average mid 30-ish.

Here comes the problem:
I've always been attracted to the Petrus method and blockbuilding, but chose CFOP because it was an easy transition from LBL. A couple of days ago I started training color-neutral Petrus and found it to be a lot of fun. I quickly improved but can't seem to get sub-1 min., haven't timed myself yet, but I think my best times are just sub-2 min. maybe better.
Now when I did CFOP again the speed and lookahead felt amazing. I really want to use color-neutral Petrus (sounds way cooler aswell) but I can't seem to find the motivation. It doesn't help that it takes me forever to find the pieces.

What do you think? Is it worth training Petrus, which I like more, or should I just stay with CFOP and train OH or BLD? If I do switch to Petrus would you recommend learning COLL to use with Roux or just enjoy 28 alg. 2LLL?

Well I'd say do what you enjoy most!
I used fridrich a while ago and was bored to death. So much so that three months ago I switched to roux. Now I average 18 with it and I'm enjoying it. I tried ZZ, Heise, Petrus and fridrich but Roux was what I found the most fun.

If you really want to use Petrus, use it! Don't worry about speed like I was... It will catch up. If you enjoy a method and want to use it, by all means do. Your looking for pieces skills (sorry don't know what it's called) will improve over time. Don't be stuck learning fridrich with the horrible thought that you really ought to be using petrus. On the other hand, if you enjoy fridrich more, use it.

As for COLL and stuff, assuming you use petrus, i recommend using the last layer algs you currently use, and gradually learn COLL which can be applied to a variety of methods.

Ok, thanks alot :) I think I'll go Petrus then and see where it leads me. Do you think COLL + EPLL is more efficient than full PLL? With the former you can kinda do 1LLL.

"Finding pieces skills" sounds good by the way ;)

You could use OCLL-PLL, COLL-EPLL or ZBLL, all have their own advantages etc. Doesn't really make much difference in term of speed if you put the practice in though.

Thanks, I'll just stick with OCLL-PLL for now. My last layer is currently my biggest strength anyway, so the work should be put elsewhere.

This was my first thread and I got all my questions answered in less than an hour. This forum is awesome!

Yea once you learn how to recognize COLL, which can be difficult at first, you could start learning some easy COLLs, but OLL/PLL is a great approach. If you really don't like diagonal corner PLLs (Y, N, V, E) you could lean the COLLs that avoid them, which depends on what OCLLs you use by default.

I <3 COLL
recognition is at least as easy as PLL recognition, COLL algs can be plenty fast (I can sub-2 every single one of them, and I am not that fast when it comes to algs compared to a lot of people). And then of course it leaves you with EPLL, for which recognition is basically instantaneous, and the algs are obviously awesome.
Not to mention the fact that you have a 1/12 chance of skipping EPLL altogether.

I haven't heard much support for COLL EPLL from anyone. I've just done OLL PLL since I started. 28 alg LL is fantastic as well. <3 my Sunes. Block building is fun. I too, like 5BLD, started with LBL but I didn't even make it to Fridrich before I got bored with the approach. I switched over to Petrus and I've stuck with it a couple of years now.

I remember that I increased my speed alot, by being color-bound? In my case Ialway build my 3x2x2 with white and green. (meanwile it's just white).

May you should try this for a while.

I've decided on opposite neutral, for both Fridrich, Petrus and Roux. That gives me the same Corner/Edge -pairs and it's more manageable than full neutral. Toying with Heise now though, to improve my blockbuilding- and commutator-skills. As well as to get a better understanding of the cube. Am fully neutral on Heise as it greatly reduces my movecount and because I want to improve my FMC techniques.

Um? Blockbuilding Petrus and Roux should not be done corner-edge pair Fridrich-style.

I normally start my R - Block in Petrus and Roux with an 2x2x1, but I don't even plan the full block in advance, instead I build a first easy pair and extend. that makes me believe planning a full 3x2x1 is not usefull for speedcubing - but maybe there is someone out their who is able to do.

Regarding FMC - isn't it normal to be color neutral when you have plenty of time?

Regarding COLL vs. PLL: it took me a long time to like COLL/CLL recognition, and the amount of moves you save depends largly on luck and the metric for counting moves, finally I like it a lot because my EPLL isfast and I get rid of PLL recognition.

Except for doing Heise at the moment, I'm going for Roux. The ergonomy and easily obtained few cube rotations are awesome.

I started with Friedrich, then moved to Petrus before homing in on Roux, now ive canned them all for L2LK, i got my pb with Friedrich but my colour blindness started to kill my recognition, and execution on oll and pll, and as i never see myself as being incredibly fast (sub 15) i may aswell learn some fun methods =P

It's funny, I find OLL and PLL (or LSE) to be the easiest to do neutral. I always get stuck on the blocks because I build blocks of the wrong colour, or spends forever trying to find out what colour blocks I need. Not when doing opp. neutral, but full.
