[Help Thread] Petrus Discussion and Help thread

2- Well, technically you could (if you restored it later during the 2x3x3), but I wouldn't, RU is so nice, why would you want to through in an F or B?
3- PetrusLL is faster. You don't have to orient the edges like you do in Fridrich.
2- I mean like, you have a 2x2x3 block and then you make a cross on the free sides(sides that the block is not in), can you finish the 2x3x3 block with no concern about the edges orientation, because they can't be disorientated?
3- How do you orient the LL edges before?

^

2. You shouldn't need to do anything except U,R moves if you've done Edge Orientation correctly. The whole point of EO is to reduce the rest of F2L to 2gen and orient the edges of the LL in advance. Don't use anything but U,R, because otherwise you should just do Fridrich :p

3. Not really sure what you're asking? If you're talking about Petrus, the Edge Orientation step makes it so that when you get to last layer, all four edges are already oriented properly.

I essentially just started solving like...2-3 months ago and about a month ago I switched to petrus because I got fed up with freidrich's, but I'm still just recently sub-60 so, what can I say?

Is there some one using Phasing when doing Step 4b (last Slot) - In fact doing 1 or 3 additional moves for Edge PLL during F2L is quit easy if your edges are already Oriented.

OK, I am taking up the Petrus Challenge...

I've been trying sole fewest moves scrambles and find that I suck horribly at block building.
I will find some nice blocks eventually but only after going back and forth through some moves.
So I decided it is going to be Petrus F2L-time for a while.

I had actually expected this thread to be full of tutorials (as in Waffles Roux thread)

First stop: Lars' site, the Original.

Practising steps 1-2 !

F2 D2 L2 R' B' U' B2 D' U2 F U R' U2 D L B U D' B L' R D2 L F L

how would you guys up to 2x2x3?

M2U'M2UM2DF2D2 2x2x2
(u')
F'R2UR'UF2U2L'UL 2X3X3

is 18 moves bad? lol

hi!
here's my approach:

B D' B2 L2 U2 L' U2 (6 moves, 2nd corner in)
D2 L B2 L' (4 moves, 1st edge)
R2 U' B2 U (4 moves, 2nd edge)

14 moves

i didnt include cube rotations!

there are meny other approaches, since there are many pairs already formed in that scramble!=q2520forum%3B&utmu=qmu=q%2520petrus%25

Whoa, have you really came up with that in real time? or you spent some time looking for the best solution?

Yes, I posted an answer to a six-months-old post, 'cause i just found this page, and i started from the beginning, hehe

how do you guys practise? i need petrus-mates, and there's none here... =(

greetings!

My speed solution would be this:

2x2x2: R2 B2 R D
2x2x3: U F R' F' R'

I'm not actually a Petrus solver, but I tend to start with a 2x2x2 block if I have a CE-pair. In this case the extension to 2x2x3 is also easy to spot so I would use that as well instead of just solving rest of the cross and continue with Fridrich.

I would say that the best way to practice is to do slow solves and try to be efficient. Once you come up with a nice solution during a slow solve, it's likely that you'll recognize it in a speed solve as well. Also useful is http://laire.fi/jarcs/ to see optimal solutions for blocks, but for some reason the link doesn't seem to work atm.
