I had that problem too until today, where I watched a YT vid and got it straightened out.

When you do the 'r', 'l', 'f', (etc) versus 'R', 'L', and 'F' (etc) you should be turning both the inside layer AND the outside layer. When it has a 'w' after, it, THAT'S when you do slice moves.

Beginning 4x4x4

When i learned 3x3x3, i tried to learn it without help. A friend of mine helped me with the first 2 layers with what he's learned on his own. I got that down, got better and then I learned dan browns technique, Layer by Layer.

So then i started learning Jessica Fridrichs Method.

My whole point, I was always taught how to do it.

Now Im starting the 4x4x4, and I really dont wanna get any help. I remember watching Dan Browns tutorial on Youtube about it a while ago, but I forgot the steps.

Im cautious to ask this, because I feel a sense of pride from learning new things about the cube. But I want to learn the 4x4x4 cube myself.

I dont think i can...

But maybe some vague insight on a beginners technique on how to solve it. How should I be tackling it? Should I do it like the 3x3x3? White cross, and corners, and work down? I can solve all the top layer...just...dont know where to go from there.

Use this how you think you should. If you think I should get some advice, give it up...if not..then...dont...lol.

i have a friend just like you,, he taught himself how to solve every puzzle that he has,, megaminx, square-1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, floppy cube, skewb, ect. because he wants pride, umm not it is very hard to try and do a 4x4 using a fridrich aproach for your first time. i would say try and do intuitive redux,,

your sayingi can tackle the cucbe just as I would tackle jessica fridrich? Hmmm...that could work...cept i would have to work in 2x2's and such. The problem lies in maintaining everything that i've done.

to give you an idea of my skill, I cant solve the cube intuitively. I need alg's to solve the last layer. I cant grasp why they work, i just know that they do. I cant see things like "Okay, gotta move these pairs here, and reconstruct my cube"...

How about you just learn to apply commutators? That's gotta be the easiest way to learn how to solve every nxnxn cube, and its intuitive. You should be able to learn how to do it by messing around with your 3x3x3

It doesn't sound like you're too confident in solving the 4x4x4 by yourself. Neither was I to be honest. Maybe a good compromise would be to *start* watching a video tutorial on the 4x4x4 and stop as soon as you think you have a clue. Then work on that for as long as you want to and see where it gets you.

I did this with the 5x5x5 and got through some of the steps by myself. But I didn't get them all and definitely had to watch the videos to get all of the details.

Otherwise, just try for some period of time (an hour, a day, a week?) and see where you get.

Finally, I'm going to type a riddle/hint below in white. If you want to read it, highlight it. If not... don't. :)

Riddle/Hint: Where is the center of each face on a 4x4x4?

Brian.
