bldcuber314's Road to 5BLD NR- Quitting cubing?

2x2 R1 was terrible but I made R2. In Skewb R1-

Solve 1 we had to call a delegate bc we weren't sure if it was a +2
Solve 2 I got a duplicate scramble, had to call a delegate again
Solve 2 again I got a +2
Solve 3 the cube was halfway turned while in the cover so they had to bring it back to the scrambling station
I did Solve 3 but then the judge was confused bc of what happened in Solve 2, thinking I should have gotten an extra.
Long confusing discussion with judge and delegate about what happened in Solve 2 and Solve 3
I accidentally wrote my own time and signed in the judge's box for Solve 3
My group was already finished, so by the time I was doing Solve 4 all the other competitors were from the next group
I did Solve 4
I did Solve 5

Through all that I got an 8.08 PR average and made R2, I made a lot of mistakes but still a good average considering what happened lol

5BLD PB single, good memo but exec was bad which cost a lot of time. Still sub 7 though!

single: 6:55.62

Time List:
1. 6:55.62[2:21 memo, bad exec] U2 F Fw2 L U Rw2 F2 R2 D' U' Lw' Uw' F2 Dw' D R Uw2 Rw' B U' D' Uw' F' Dw' Rw R Lw B2 L Uw F Uw2 Fw2 U2 L' Rw' R' Fw Lw Rw Dw R' U Uw2 R2 Lw F' D2 Bw2 U' Bw' B2 R2 D' B' F U' D2 L' Rw' 3Fw 3Uw'

Looking back over the footage, I lost about 35 seconds on pauses, and I didn't analyse the moves but I also remember making some exec errors that I had to reverse so this solve probably could have been around 6:15. Still, my turning was good(by my standards lol) and pretty clean.

Also the Japanese NR single of 4:44.39 had 2:39 memo so I think I'm one of the top Japanese 5BLD solvers in terms of memo. Obviously my exec needs work, so hopefully summer gives me a chance to try out 3-style again. My main goal for my next two comps is still NR mean, so now I've got a decent single I think I'll go back to practising safeties for the most part.

Also this single would have been WR98, AsR27, NR6. This is my first time getting a sub WR100 PB that's actually the result that is ranked in competitions(so speedsolving event/averages and BLD singles). This means that if I got this in comp, unlike with a WR100 5BLD mean, I would genuinely be in the top 100 best 5BLD solvers in the world.

Did a 5BLD compsim for Great Lakes today-

Tried to safety to get under NR mean, but the last solve was just really bad. I think that the 3rd attempt will definitely be hard, I was really tired by then and struggling to remember my memo. Hopefully I can find a way to deal with this before the comp, I really want to break NR mean at Great Lakes. At UKC, even if I break the record I might get Keatoned since there is a comp in Korea on the same day, and there are 2 Japanese competitors with a good shot at the record. I also ideally want to get the mean at Great Lakes so that I can focus on trying to get a good single and podium at UKC.

Bro i swear in 2x2 you pointed to James curry to judge you but the runner just gave Ur cube to me lol

Goals for Great Lakes today-

FMC- I didn't really revise for this exam and I don't want the pressure of trying for a PR mean, I'll just hope for a PR single on a lucky scramble
5BLD- NR mean, otherwise sub 7:30 single or maybe podium
MBLD- Qualify for UKC(so probably need at least 19/23), maybe podium if I do well

Tomorrow-

Pyra- Sub 4 average
3x3- PR single(9.86) or average(11.93)
Mega- No goals
OH- PR average(28.79)
3BLD- Sub 50 mean, make finals, sub 40 single
Skewb- PR single(4.00) or average(8.00)
5x5- PR single(2:10.64)

So 5BLD was kind of a disaster. Tried to safety solve 1 and made an exec error, so had to quit the solve early. Atp I had already failed NR so I decided to go all out to try for a podium, and DNFed the next two solves as well. (Messed up memo on both so the times weren't that fast, 7:07 and 7:14). Hopefully I can get NR at UKC without being Keatoned

MBLD was bad, 18/23 55:51(38:21 memo). PR, but missed prize money podium($10 nothing serious) by 1 mistake, would have been nice to become a pro speedcuber. Also I'm now 16th on psych sheet for UKC, so I might qualify, might not.

FMC was the only thing that went well today(the only event I didn't care about 💀), I got a 39.33 overall PB mean(final solve still being checked) and a 34 overall PB single. The 34 was technically LBL with beginner last layer, it was a 5 move cross into a keyhole free pair, then 3 free pairs cancelled into beginner method last layer to solve a 2-twist. (19 moves to 2-twist, would have been a 19 with LBL if it wasn't for that dumb 2-twist).

Also registered for Peterborough Qualification Day 2025, it has MBLD, 4BLD and 5BLD but you can only register for either MBLD or 4/5BLD. I'm planning to do big BLD, but this might change. This gives me another opportunity for 5BLD NR before the Korea comp, and also means I have a chance to qualify for 4BLD in UKC(planning to safety).
