One-Answer WCA Competition and Regulations Question Thread

Judging here is required only for people who aren't at their first comp, but I judged at my first comp. Judging isn't something you should avoid. I actually enjoy it and don't consider it a chore that must be done. You get to see many cubers solve their cube, from super fast ones to slower ones. So definitely try judging when you have a chance.
Yup, its very fun!

I was fidgeting around with my new cube, (first I own capable of corner twists) doing a slow beginners method solve. I reach a point where LL was being worked on, so as you would do in the beginners method, you would solve a LL Cross, (F, R. U, R', U', F') when I saw what i believed was multiple corner twists, so i twisted them back, only to notice they weren't twisted. I solved OLL with one algorithm and some twists. Now, my question is, IF you were to do this in competition, going, C(ross) F(2L) new OLL thing, then PLL, would it be competition legal?

It’s also just slower, and takes barely more effort (and pays off way more in the long run) to learn a few algorithms for 4-look last layer. It’ll take you a week to learn them all if you focus, and that’s really not too hard to do.

Sorry! I didn't realize that different areas had different policies. In my area, it's requested not required. Apologies for the misunderstandings.

Technically, it is required in all areas.

1e2) Every competitor must be available for judging. If required to judge, a competitor may be excused only for a legitimate reason (e.g. being unfamiliar with a puzzle), at the discretion of the WCA Delegate. Penalty: disqualification from the competition (see Regulation 2k).

The competition can't happen if people don't judge. If there are vacancies that need to be filled, anyone can be asked, regardless of the volunteer systems that are used in every area.

Exactly and especially newer cubers are always heavily needed for judging, since experienced cubers are often scrambling or doing orga stuff, so judges are always needed. Thats why we have a judging tutorial in germany at the beginning of judgable events at both days :) (Also if you make some mistakes at the beginning thats totally normal, I made a lot mistakes in my career while judging too)

I went to the WCA and it said that the website was shut down. I went to YouTube to find the WCA Still there. And under the WCA website link it said they had decided to shut down the WCA. Please tell me if this is true or am I going nuts!?!?

Although I'm not a delegate, from my experience, what you first described is correct. For a +2 that happened after the solve (bad timer stop, touching the puzzle, or a single turn off, etc.), write out:

12.34 + 2 = 14.34

Also remember that +2s can happen before a solve, so for a +2 that happened before the solve (over inspection, bad timer start, etc.), put it before the solve time.

And for multiple penalties, add the penalties together for +4, +6, +8, if they all happened before or after a solve. For over inspection, a half turn off, and karate chop stop, I would write out:

2 + 12.34 + 4 = 18.34
