Hi,
my name is Bastian and I am currently 15 years old. In this thread I'll be posting about me attempting to learn how to solve the Rubiks-Cube in under 20-seconds (on average).

If you have any suggestions or help for me, please let me know.

What I already can do:

----->current average ~35sec.
----->current cube V-Cube 3 (not the best but it should be enought for sub 20)
----->using CFOP
----->I know basic F2L and also learned 2-look-OLL and 2-look-PLL a few days ago
----->I can do blindfoolded solves but very slow

What my plan is:

The splits I am going for are:

Cross: 2sec
F2L: 10sec
OLL: 4sec
PLL: 4sec

What I know I can improve:

Inspection - I use it for the whole cross in easy cases but only for 2-3 edges in difficult cases
Waiting - I spend a lot of time (specially in F2L) not cubing but searching for the next pair, I will try to make fluent solves.
OLL and PLL - I will stay with the 2-look-OLL and practise it but I will learn the 21 PLL-Algorithms (I guess it will be learning one each day)

Thats it for now. Bye,
Bastian

It will be really good for you if you upgrade to a really good budget cube like MF3RS2M ,Yuxin Little Magic , YJ MGC M , Yuxin Kylin V2 as they will really support your fringer tricks and help you increasing your TPS.

I would upgrade your current 3x3 to a Little magic or MF3RS2. My YLM performs like a flagship, and its corner cutting is on par with my gan x when lubed and tensioned

the vcube 3 is crap and you definitely need a Better cube I advise the meilong(£5), meilong m(£10 from speedcubing.org) or the weilong wrm (£25)

I know that my cube is not a very good one and I've also looked into getting a new cube in the last week but I am still not sure wich cube I'll get.
The other thing I also have in mind is trying to convince my parents into getting me the one I want for Christmas.

Thanks for your response and also thanks for cube recommendations because I am totally unsure wich one to go for, since there are so many different.
Cheers,
Bastian

It honestly doesn't matter which cube you get. Any decent cube will work. Usually, when pro cubers(sub-10) use a worse cube(not Rubik's brand, just not a great cube) they only lose about a second on their times. When your still at a lower level(like me :p), all you need is a decent cube, pretty much any modern speed cube will work.

A better cube will definitely help. Also, I know that this might be a bit counterproductive, but I would recommend trying out other methods too, because you don't want to feel like you're stuck with CFOP and have already put to much effort into it. You already know enough algs for Roux and ZZ (the ones I would recommend most). Apart from that, learning full PLL then drilling the algs for a few days should drop that down to sub 3 easily if you have most of them sub 2 and get decent at recog. I would also recommend making sure your fingertricks are good by watching fast people do PLL. I'd recommend this video.
In inspection, plan as far as possible, so with CFOP definitely full cross, maybe more. In F2L, don't do dumb things and make sure you prioritise good solutions before tps and lookahead. J perm's videos are good (although his doc isn't as good). Good luck!
