lol this is a W post by literally Aidan Grainger:

To avoid a mindless riot, I think it's important to address opposing views. So far, there has been one person with an opposing view in the WCA forum poll.

Their view was that at the time, Yiheng and his parents might have simply thought of sliding as a way to get faster, and not as cheating. They also said to 'show empathy'.

I completely agree that Yiheng may not have considered it cheating at all. I think almost everybody agrees that this record should be penalised, but with no specific action against Yiheng himself, such as a ban- this would be unfair to him.

Unfortunately however, decisions on the actual result can't be made through empathy. The 0.78 WR average is a huge deal, and whether or not it counts can't be decided on how Yiheng will feel. The fact is, this record was achieved unfairly and as a result shouldn't count.

I will note that even if this record doesn't count, Yiheng will still have the world record. The difference is, it will be a legitimate record, breakable by today's standards.

I believe that this record should not count.
