I think Roux will be a bit easier to get sub-20 with, since you don't need fast turning. A while ago I recorded a sub-20 Ao5 with 2.67 TPS - that's equivalent to doing a T perm in 5.24 seconds! Of course I've been doing Roux for a while so you might need a few more moves, but if you turn quickly during CMLL then that won't matter. The downside is that you will have to practise quite a bit to get down to your original speed, but I think it's worth the switch. :)

I think in the end all this revolves around what I'll have more fun with, being fast(er) with whatever method or learning new things. Problem is: I can't make up my mind so as to what I'd like the most :) Anyway, what you've said about sub-20 with Roux is something I hadn't considered before. I'm definitely going to put an end to my current trend of sitting down and spam timed solves and do some focused training with slow solving and lookahead, new F2L tricks, etc. If that does not give immediate improvement during Christmas vacation I might as well start 2016 by switching to Roux altogether.

Thanks a lot, again, for your feedback and advice. One of the things I like the most of this forum is the willingness to help each other and the fact that young people usually know more and can give advice to we oldsters and not the other way around :)

Honestly, I was a CFOP solver before a Roux solver and if you are already getting bored with CFOP rn, I would suggest switching. Roux, in my opinion, is much more fun to solve and less uniform.

Ok, so I'm sub 24 with roux, I average about 23.8(I switched from CFOP back in late October), When do you think I should try and learn full cmll? I already know almost 2 sets because of algs I knew already. If I start, how many should I learn per day? Thanks in advance :)

the important thing is not to rush into it and make sure you have some good algs. i would try to avoid cmll sets that were posted long ago. I think TDM and Penguinsdon'tfly have a good cmll sets, or look at the algdb.net. Once you find good algs, i think it's okay to learn as fast as you want. just keep rehearsing those algs; recognition, for me, was harder than learning the actual alg, so make sure you do a good amount of solves to practice that as well.

The issue is not exactly that I'm bored of CFOP but more like I am bored of being stuck at around 19-20 sec average with CFOP. That's what brought me into 2x2, 4x4, Mega and other events and that's also something that might make me try Roux again. I never gave it much of a chance (I was getting 45 to 50 sec averages after a couple weeks when I switched back to CFOP).

Yep, don't make the switch if you're not sure you'd prefer it! No point in doing something if you don't enjoy it. It's also definitely good to do focused training, especially to help lookahead/efficiency, so give that a go before practising Roux seriously.

Glad I could help! :)

I think the sooner you learn something, the better. After all, it can only help. However although you should start soon, definitely listen to GuRoux - do it at your own pace. Rushing through can lead to bad fingertricks/algs and slow recognition. Personally, I learn 1-2 algs at a time, and always make sure that I'm comfortable recognising and doing them quickly in a speedsolve before moving on to other algs. When doing CMLL, I did one a day - that's a set a week. If you've done a couple of sets already, it'll only take a month.

Alright, thanks to both! I think I'll start learing about 1 alg a day, and then doing some solves and practicing recognition, which seems to be the hardest thing for me [emoji14]

Anyone have the GT yet? If so, how is it for Roux specifically (m slices, rw turns, LSE catches, etc.)

The M slices are scary fast. Haven't done a Roux solve on one (I'll post if I get a chance to), but I would say if you like really fast M slices, you'll like it (probably).

Ok I need some help.
My splits: (the most recent solve)
8-6-2-7
FB: 11 STM (double turns as 1)
SB: 14 STM
CMLL(I know U and Pi, been lagging behind on learning the rest): 20-10 STM
LSE: 24 STM
6-7 second TPS on LSE
Best Ao5: 23.422
Best Ao12: 24.574
Best Ao100: 28.074

I started cubing 4 months and 18 days ago.
Any thoughts on improvement. (Will be posting vid soon)

i'm assuming your splits are without pauses between steps
aim for 4-6-2-5

the fact that you take longer for first block than second block must mean you don't plan out all of first block in inspection. just keep practicing doing that in slow solves or with infinite inspection

aim for 18 stm for lse. post an example lse solution so we can see what you're doing wrong.

Scramble. M' U2 M' U' M' U' M' M2 U2
Solve: U2 M' U' M' M U2 M U M U2 M
It might be wrong.

Would planning first block in my head and solving no look work?
Sorry for the double post.
