Any tips for look ahead.

For which part?

Mine goes like this:

FB (essentially BLD)- track DR piece
Place DR piece- Look for last 2 pairs
Insert L2P (while doing the last one try predicting CMLL)
CMLL- learn which pieces are flipped in Eo so you can predict the orientation case.
Orient edges- look for UL and UR edges and either pair or place one in D and one in U
Insert- I believe the current lookahead favoured is the BU recognition developed by Alex Lau to look ahead to LFE

Well, slow solves are the best IMO. I currently do it with a metronome set to ~100 bpm, slower if I screw up too much, but I always aim to stay at 100 (at least never <70)

i have never really liked the idea of metronome, probably because i suck at it. i think just turn as fast as you can without any pauses, always having perfect lookahead and knowing what you are going to do before you finish what you are solving.

I dare you all to try this, using the mechanics and intuition of the roux method, solve the cube with but one catch, don't focus on the centers until before the last LSE Substep.

Yes, and try to force the ro case you want. Also, your eo doesn't have to have a white center so it's less restrictive.

Like a void cube except you can solve the centers at any time.

Then just F2B (ignoring centres), CMLL, Eo & LSE. If you have 4x4x4 PLL parity (or equivalent), do an M, reorient edges, LSE. Fix centres (if not already solved- 1 in 3 chance to already be solved)

Yes and try to force a good eo case.

Roux Help and Discussion thread

I consider myself fully x2, y CN apart from one aspect- I always insert the red and yellow edges during LSE when getting to LFE. Is this a bad thing?

Yeah. That comes with practice, if you do that and those are not the UL and Ur corners, then it restricts the cases to just

Which, IMO is the slowest case.

? No it doesn't...
You can essentially have all the same cases just with a U or a U' at the end (although you can save moves in the orientation cases, especially cause in thinking of going neutral with it so you can exploit any pair easily

I don't know what I've been doing differently then.

UF and UB first does increase the chance of dots for 4c... i used to do it, just get off the habit, it's way easier to pick a block and keep repeating that colour in your mind so when you get to UL UR you only remember that colour and its opposite, the UL and UR pieces, which is easier for the GuRoux and Alex Lau recognition for 4c (the best imo)

People always do the FB on the left? I do (with white or yellow on bottom) my blue/red blocks on my left and my green/orange on the right, so sometimes I do my FB on the left and sometimes on the right, is that ok?

That's fine, it really doesn't matter.
