that doesn't seem worth it. double the recognition and probably 3 move long solution 5/6 of the time.
I know, but for some of them, like R U2 R' or R2 D R' U' R D' R2, recog is usually so I easy I can see it in one of the many pauses in my SB. I never pause just to recognise WV; it's when I recognise a case while turning that I'll use it. When I learn to lookahead, I almost certainly won't have time to recognise WV, and will gradually stop using it.

On a scale of 1 to 10, if 1 is not at all, 10 is a lot and 5 is personal preference, how important is colour neutrality?

Depends on the level of CN.

My opinion:
y2 is obvious / must learn, on your scale 8-9.
I prefer x2/y2, and that is fair enough, 4-6.
I guess x/y2 or x2/y is somewhere 2-3.
Full CN is around 1. It requires so much effort, with the same effort you can improve a lot more on other parts of the solve.

Any tips on how to practice first/second block consciously (beside solving as much as I can...)? (I'm very new :) )

1) Do slow / FMC-like solvings. Try to minimize your movements. For FB, 10-12 moves is acceptable on average, <10 in nearly every case is pro. (Depends on the level of color neutrality. I am x2/y2 color neutral, and I usually do the FB in 6-9 moves.) For the second block, aim for <20 moves. 12-16 is pro.
(Note: by the length of moves, I mean STM.)

2) Experiment with different block building techniques on the same scramble.

3) Analyze other's movements on FB and SB. You can find many nice examples here. If someone's block colors differ from yours, use alg.cubing.net (or similar software), and apply some cube rotations before the scramble, so you can see the block building with your colors.

4) Learning move efficient solves in F2B is important, you should learn that before focusing on other things (TPS and lookahead). But of course you need to practice those as well. :)

What do you guys use for this

visualcube.php
visualcube.php
visualcube.php

you could also rotate your version and get rid of the Ls: x' U r U2 r' U' x
don't know if that's any good, guess it depends on if you like x rotations.

+1 for Ottozing's solution. For future reference, you can learn some good blockbuilding techniques by looking at reconstructions here.

i think it would be pretty hard to find that case in the database. it might just be faster and more educational for the roux community to just post the question. oh, nevermind, i just clicked the link. :)
