uh...
Do look ahead.
Also, use the Search Function in the future, as people won't hate you for that.
And he was asking whether look ahead develops over time or if it was something that needs to be worked on, not the question of looking ahead or not.

Look ahead.

How do people look ahead to f2l from the cross?
I don't understand that./
I used search engine founnd a thread but didn't understand it.

You get so good at solving simple cases by PRACTICING, that you're mind is free to look for the next step while you are performing a solution to another. When I see a slot that is solved by R U R', I don't watch myself do R U R', I look for what I can do next. Not specifically from cross to f2l, but it's all the same thing. People plan the entire cross from inspection. This is done by practice, like I said before.

Oh, another thing I'd like to mention. I didn't join this forum until I was sub 30. Living proof that you can figure this **** out on your own, without it ever being told to you to be in existence. I didn't know what look ahead was, or how to solve f2l cases. I figured it out, and I practiced hard. Try it.

Well I have to stop for almost 5 seconds to find the two matching pieces. and know what tio do witht them and then put them in so it is like 8 seconds per f2l for me.

looking ahead...

so everyone always talks about it but i have not seen anything on really how to do it... i mean i know its intuitive and it takes time... but what are things for instance i should be looking ahead for when im on F2L... i have gotten decent at knowing exactly how im gonna get my cross done in my 15sec pre look but corner and second layer egde pieces i feel like i take too much time to get... i recently switched to the key hole method and that helps. Its just drives me crazy when my LL game is actually decent but i spend 80% of my time on the foundation..... gah!@!

The general idea is to look for the pieces you will be solving next, while executing the algs/moves for what you are currently solving. In Fridrich F2L this means looking for another matching corner+edge, while solving the current corner+edge pair.

In a lot of stuff I've read, folks seem to talk about it as if its some kind of magical switch. Like as soon as you start to 'lookahead' your times get better. In my own experience I've found that it requires a strong ability to 'see' pieces quickly, which only comes with a lot of practice. If you're just starting with lookahead you will have to slow down to the point that you can find the next pieces in the time it takes to solve the current ones. Some people find using a metronome helps with this. Gradually, as your recognition improves you will be able to move faster while still being able to keep track of what comes next.

This thread should get you started ;)

wow thanks... that first thread/video really cleared things up

Freakin awsome.... for the longest time i just couldnt figure out what badmephisto was talking about. Looking ahead and Intuitive F2L... last night it seemed to just click and i was doing both (tho not quickly yet). Figureing out how to match up F2L pairs from all angles... thanks to everyone has has been patient with all my stupid questions lol. and to all the noobs like me out there getting fustrated... just keep trying, it does take time and an S load of practice.... but it does come...

Side note... im officialy sub 30.... boom baby!

Excellent! I'm glad your F2L is starting to come together! Have you decided what you're going to do about OLL an PLL yet? One look, two look?

Congrats on sub 30, I remember how satisfying that was!
