It's the cuber, not the cube: Is there a limit?

That's not surprising, the GuHong, LingYun, and ZhanChi are pretty much as good as each other.
I have improvements going from a GuHong to ZhanChi, but my guhong was old and busted.

I agree that going from a Guhong to a Zhanchi, or likewise, aren't that much of a difference. However, if you only have a Rubik's brand that locks up and pops all the time, it really holds you back. I remember that I in the beginning of september i were just barely sub -30 with a Rubik. My times had not changed anything over the summer. In september I got my Guhong and now I average around 19. That's enough proof to me, in order to be able to say that good cubes make big differences.

Something to also think about is that since Dayan started being used, WR lowered with almost 1,5 second from a level it had been on for a long time. But maybe that's just Feliks. :-p

Better cubes allow us to literally cut corners in a solve. If we can get through algorithms by doing less of a turn (cutting corners), our times drop.
There's also the weight/hallowness/overall feel of the cube that makes it better.
Better cubes alllow us to be "bad turners" and still do good, which isn't actually bad.... yeah
