i used to have guhong v1, and then it popped and i lost the piece, then i got a new one, and then i kept popping, and i got reaaallly pissed off at pops, so i got a guhong v2, but i preferred the guhong v1's feel more.

I have a Guhong V1 and V2. The Guhong was my first real speedcube.
I say the Guhong V1 is above average although it's not quite at the Zhanchi level in my opinion.
My Guhong V1 is super broken in, it turns as if it's lubed with cream and it's whisper quiet.
The Guhong V2 is nice with the torpedoes, but it feels a little different than my V1. Maybe because it's not as broken in but I can definitely tell them apart in a blind test and I actually prefer the V1.

Bought my Guhong v1 from speedcubeshop.com Feb 2012. It was my first speedcube (I switched directly from Rubik's storebought). All I've done to it is used Lubix on it, did the 48-point edge mod, and tensioned it. If I were going to competition right now, it would be my main. I like the smoothness and the turning feel though perhaps it's a little blockier than ideal. I have it set at slightly tight tensions. It can cut almost 45 degrees but not quite. It hardly pops on me... at least not anymore. Speaking of my Guhong, it's probably time for me to relube it though it actually doesn't feel that bad... I just realized the last time I lubed it was October...

I think "blockier" is an excellent word to describe it. I was having a hard time finding the right word myself.

The quality of both cubes is excellent. I find that the feel of the Guhong I and Zhanchi is very different, and I personally prefer the Zhanchi mainly because of this.

Agreed, that's a good way to describe it. My Zhanchi feels smoother as a result, like it takes less effort to flow through the turns. My Lingyun also has that smoothness but unfortunately has a tendency to fly apart.

(My Guhong's a v2 but I assume the blockiness is nothing to do with torpedoes)

I use a 55mm Zhanchi now but my previous was a Guhong.

I try to have two copies of my favorite cube. One of the advantages of this is that when one needs lubing, you'll know it by comparing it with the other.

And I've seen people in competition practicing with their #2 cube while their main gets scrambled. I just think you should take it one step further and have two, identical, main cubes.

Where the puzzle was purchased: Some Amazon retailer that I unfortunately don't remember

When the puzzle was purchased: Around fall last year.

Thoughts on the puzzle: The guhong v1 was my first actual speedcube since I switched over from a Rubik's Brand. It was ridiculously smooth and fast(though it popped a ton and I had to tighten it alot)....then I got a zhanchi as a Christmas present. I let the guhong sit on my desk as a backup, or I would bring it to school just to keep me busy when things get boring. Just last month, I picked it up again and decided to do the 48 pem and some rounding of the corner piece. I thought it was impossible for it to be smoother and creamier...but it did! Now im actually considering making it my main after I do the full screw mod (I currently have one screw in one edge piece).
