How important is color neutrality? I make white cross; oll and pll algos on yellow. If I try to use some other color combination my time increases by 30 sec or so.. It feels like I'm searching for 1 f2l pair from decades. Does color neutrality effect\affect (I don't actually know whether to use effect or affect) overall times?

no answer... some people are faster... some people are slower...

It depends, I had a scamble with a cross on the red and not on the white and i lolfailed the solve, seriously.

But poeple can learn to be color neutral, since you didn't practise it a lot you're not that good at it.

Color neutrality has the advantage of of move efficient crosses and must be practiced to be made useful (I've used it since I started) allowing a faster cross/x-cross.The advantage fixed has though is that in f2l the pairs being made will always be the same making the search for the two pieces easier than using different pairs each time. It all actually comes down to choice of which you prefer. Either can be fast and neither is required for a good speed.

The advantage of colorneutrality is finding faster crosses, but in my opinion, 15 sec of inspection is too short to find the best cross and fully plan it out. For me it's better to just find the white pieces and plan the white cross.

What if you dont use CFOP... then it helps considerably

I recently started doing the odd solve on a different cross for fun. Then it kept doing it, and I think I may end up reasonably colour neutral because of it. PB on usual cross (white or yellow) is only .19 seconds faster than using a different cross (PB was on red), although I tend to have a slower average. I reckon I will eventually end up faster this way, and it hasn't taken much effort.
I've also done colour neutral ZZ for a laugh. I'm not great at normal ZZ so I tend to fail hard, but it's fun.

yeah, I'm one of those weird people who is kind of color neutral, I can do cross on any color, but I cant find the f2l pairs if cross is on green or orange, its just weird like that ( im cfop), if you are a different method like roux, petrus, or zz not being color neutral is often easier to standardize your solves, and much easier to recognize orientation, basically it all depends if you can deal with crappy cross cases ( you mentioned cross so im assuming your cfop)

I learnt to solve the cube from Dan browns guide, so at the start I was colour neutral. But after just a few weeks I found out that many people started on white only so I started doing that. During this last winter I decided to become opposite colour neutral (start on white and yellow). And now, I am fully colour neutral. I can start on any side and I am equally fast on all colours. But I still tend to start more often on white or yellow. I feel more comfortable with that.

I just do it for fun too. It would take me ages to get used to solving like that consistently though. I also purchased some gray scale stickers and those have been helping me "let go" of set colours to a certain degree. But yeah, they only help for a while seeing as you get used to the gray scales pretty quickly.

I started at white cross, but am currently becoming color neutral. CN helps a ton, since you have an easy cross/x-cross (thus being faster). However, you have to learn to recognize which pair is an F2L pair :)

Same.

Although it's a personal preference but now reading to everybody's advice I think I should try being color neutral.

It'll only save you like .5 secs in CFOP.

But for blockbuilding, it's quite important I believe. I am colour neutral for the first bit of the first block but force white/yellow on bottom. Roux btw.

In reality it's personal preference.

Lolno. I am color neutral, and trust me, 15 seconds inspection is too much!!!!!!
