[Help Thread] ZZ and ZB Discussion

Thanks BaMiao, but qqwref generated a list of awesome algs. I've bolded the algs I intend to use, and most of them are more fingertricky than the ones on Absolute F2L.

Hai! All of these algs are for the DFR piece misoriented. Most probably suck but there might be something cool in here.

Are there any ZZers going to worlds besides me and asmallkitten?
On a semi-related note, I think that we really should compile an updated list of zz cubers and have a mod edit the first post with our updates.

Just a random question; how much will my times increase switching from CFOP to ZZ, and when will they start to decrease, if i practice, let's say 1 hour everyday? Btw, i average around 27-28 secs with CFOP.

You can expect your times to go up quite a bit (maybe to 40?) but they will quickly come back down again as you start to practice and get used to the method. I would say that you can be back to your current CFOP times in 2 months at the most (probably less). EOLine will probably be the harder part to get used to, so practice a lot without the timer. When you first start, you should give yourself unlimited inspection (instead of the usual 15 seconds) to find all the bad edges before you start the solve.
Good luck!

Yo, i'm kinda confused. What exactly is EO-line? Isn't it just a half of a cross? I can pair up my white green edge, my white blu egde and my center in a few seconds. Am i missing something OBIVIOUS?

I'll be going! I average 21-22 seconds, so shouldn't even make round 2. Still looking forward to it.

You also have to orient all the edges. Take a look at asmallkitten's tutorial:

I am actually following his tut. It's what i thought, "a half cross". I don't know why everyone i ask is saying like: "It will be hard to make the line in the beginning" and "EO-line takes a while to get used to. For me it's like a half done cross, and i leave it like that. Thanks :)

Just out of curiosity; what are the chances of having an OLL-skip with ZZ? I figure they are pretty normal, since there are only 7 OLL cases. By normal i mean like every tenth solve you get one etc.

Doing half a cross straight away doesn't orient the edges, does it?

Ehm, no. I mean after orientating x edges.
About the post where you said " I don't know why everyone i ask is saying like: "It will be hard to make the line in the beginning" and "EO-line takes a while to get used to." That's probably because the EO is hard to get used to, the Line is that 'half cross' you're talking about.

Ah, ok. Hmm, i found it kinda easy to adapt to. Maybe i've been using the wrong method for a year, and i'm actually born as a ZZ solver? o.O

Here's my first take on ZZ-porky
34.15, 39.88, 39.16, 32.03, 39.39, 30.64, 35.60, 41.37, 35.98, 32.99, 33.78, 37.06, 32.08, 36.66, 42.45, 27.42, 31.57, 26.70, 29.47, 38.53, 34.10, 26.47, 30.30, 38.97, 27.37, 25.36, 33.14, 31.49, 30.94, 31.99
solves:30 avg:33.57 best:25.36 worst:42.45 std:13.7%

It was fun :) atm I have a notebook with cases 1-6 being written as my cheatlist as I solved using ZZ-porky, notable solves: 27.42, 26.47, 27.37 are PLL skip :). And on the LL I 2-Look it OCLL-EPLL.
And btw I average around 23-25s in normal ZZ.
