[Help Thread] Colour Neutrality Discussion

Colour neutral

I am teaching a guy how do do a 3x3x3. Should I tell him to try to be colour neutral or not? Every time I ask him to do how much he can, he starts off on a random colour, but I read somewhere on this forum that getting F2L is hard when moving to the Friedrich method (I dont know if I spelled that right)

If he's naturally color neutral let him stay that way. There's something different about people who are naturally CN and people who practice to CN.

I'd say let him continue to be color neutral. The world record holder as well as many other fast people are color neutral. For the most part it's tough to switch to color neutral once they've used a single color for so long.

Who else is fast and CN?
I'm not disagreeing with you, I really don't know and am curious.

Feliks, Rowe, Robert Yau, Edward Lin, and DENE!

OK, should I teach him the way I learnt and am familiar with, or the Jasmine Lee beginner method? I know mine, I learnt in an hour or so, which would be easiest since he isn't a very patient guy, but with the JL method, he can change to the Fridrich Method more easily.

I'd say that it depends on his motivation and how fast the person in question wants to get.

Being CN or not being CN doesn't matter imo. He seems to be naturally color neutral let him stay that way. I had not trouble switching from Dan Brown's tutorial into Fridrich and I am color neutral.

I started out on green cross because that's what the little booklet taught me to do, but when I started watching you tube tutorials, they were mostly teaching white cross, so I forced myself, as hard as it was, to switch. It really didn't take that long though. Just recently, I've been training to be color neutral just because I'm bored with solving the same color everytime. It's been a very very hard journey, but I am just barely starting to get better at it. I can surprisingly solve red and green faster than yellow. When I try to solve yellow, I keep thinking I'm doing white, because they use the same secondary colors. I'm not too bad with blue or orange, but red is definitely my strongest second color.

I just do color neutral because I always have, and it's not like it's holding me back or anything... Some people have a lot of trouble switching from one cross to color neutral, but since it's the way I learned, I've never found it to be a problem.
