I'm teaching my sister how to solve a 3by3, and I want to teach her CN while she's learning, rather than years later when it's much harder. Do I start her off with dual CN or straight to full CN? I'm thinking dual CN for right now and full CN once she gets used to it, but I'd like to hear what you guys think about this.

Also, if anyone has any resources to train CN, I'd really appreciate it if you could share them.

Full is not worth the effort unless you're enjoying it. Dual is always worth the effort. Teach her as much color neutrality as she enjoys.

Old thread but some good discussion:

For what it's worth I taught my sister colour neutrality when she was learning the 3x3, and she is now fully cn, on all NxNs, and other cubes like the megaminx. I didn't find it to be any trouble at all, I just told her to choose any colour, and follow the steps. No reason not to get her a few steps ahead in my opinion.

Yeah, but rn she's a beginner
I don't want her to be overwhelmed. So I'll start her with dual cn and she can switch to full cn later if she wants
It would actually be better to start with full CN. It would be way easier to revert to dual CN with a fav set of colors than to add in 4 new colors later.

CN is better for planning less. Dual CN has become the meta at the top levels because the goal is have a few extra options, but to make a decision quickly to plan further into the solve. If you're not trying to plan further, then CN becomes better because of the extra easy crosses.

My experience with color neutrality (for what it's worth):
I swapped to full CN probably about a year after I started cubing. I think because I did it so early it was easier for me. It probably took two weeks or so to get comfortable. This was a long time ago (5-6 years), so my memory is a bit vague, but if I am remembering correctly, at first White/Yellow was easiest, then Red/Orange/Green/Blue became easier than White/Yellow for some reason, then finally they all became equally easy. Now, there is legitimately no advantage/disadvantage for any color for me. At one point in my career, it would have been hard for me to tell you what color I solved on. I think at my speed (10-11 global, trending towards 11 these days, lol), full CN is really good on 9/10 scrambles. The tenth is a doozy, though. These are the scrambles where you can't find an easy cross on any color, so I tend to waste some time deciding what color to start on. This is getting very rambly, but one point I want to make is that I think if people would commit to full CN, then probably within a year (#arbitrary number), it would be like you have been full CN all your life. As some people have mentioned, dual CN may be better at a high level, so as not to be messed up by that tenth scramble. That seems plausible to me.
