Master Pyraminx as a WCA Event?

Master Pyraminx has always been one of my favorite non-WCA puzzles, and for good reason. Here is why I think it would make a great addition to the WCA's current list of events, considering what they are at the moment.

>>The hardware is relatively good at the moment, making the event fingertricky and easily do-able as a speed event.

>>The solve is interesting, with the prospect of mostly intuitive solving at the moment with complex center algorithms and edge solving. There are also tips that must be accounted for.

>>Master Pyraminx times at the moment are not insanely fast, which would allow for a lot of room for improvement. Something like Redi Cube, with UWR solves being under 3 seconds, is more something I would consider as "nearly impossible/unattainable".

>>There doesn't seem to be many methods out there for it at all besides mostly intuitive solving and unnamed individually-created methods that cubers will use.

>> It is done as an event on this forum's Weekly Competitions, and most people seem to be doing a good job at it.

>>>>>Overall, the puzzle itself is not too fast, yet not too slow and tedious. It seems to be in that sweet spot between ridiculously fast, "SPAM TPS" sort of camp, but also not "oh my god this solve is taking foreverrrrrr" sort of solve.

In my opinion, Master Pyraminx is to Pyraminx as 4x4 is to 3x3, including the added piece types, as well as the addition of slice moves and added complexity, which adds a breath of fresh air to the whole idea of spamming L4E on a Pyraminx and thats it.

If 4x4-7x7 can exist, and they can be almost analogous to a 3x3 in their solving at times (they are arguably just larger, more complex versions of the 3x3), then why can't larger and more complex versions of another puzzle be brought in?

Pyraminx is one of the most popular and accessible WCA events, and its a puzzle that almost every budding speedcuber has bought after their first 3x3 and 2x2. So why not introduce a new puzzle that puts a spin on this classic pyramid?

I for one think it would be a great addition to the WCA. I can guarantee that I'm not alone in this thinking, either.

I definitely support Master Pyraminx being an official event, but:

What kind of Master Pyraminx are you using? Every move you can do does an even cycle of all the piece types, so there's no parity issues on the puzzle at all.

I use the QiYi Master Pyraminx.

And btw I'm talking about the centers, how there can be either four misplaced, three, or none.

...I realize now that that isn't technically parity. However, I just always referred to it as that.

I should probably fix that in my post.

[EDIT] FIXED.

Master Pyraminx doesn't get enough recognition for how good of an addition it would be. It fits all the criteria and has no downsides.
With the removal of Feet, I think it's time for a new event to be added, or even multiple. I'd be 100% in favor of this, along with Curvy Copter (once we figure out all the issues, namely scrambling).

I would like to see master pyraminx, however, I would recommend not scrambling the tips!
I think the tips are so trivial to solve, they don't do anything but add a luck factor into how fast your time will be.

However, they're still part of the puzzle. I think that the puzzle is long enough that the tips won't change the final time a significant amount, it doesn't make much sense to me to just... not scramble them.
The cross on 3x3 is just luck too for how easy it is, so why don't we just have all scrambles start with a solved cross to eliminate that factor?

As cheesy and irrelevant as this sounds, a Pyraminx puzzle is simply not a Pyraminx puzzle without the tips :p

That's a master tetraminx. I like tips; with the right Fingertricks you can solve them while doing other moves.

I haven’t. Read any opinions but. I am kind of against this because what about skewb, it would be unfair (but i just think it wouldn’t be fair and I’m weird which makes my opinions weird)

You being weird isn't what makes your opinion on master pyraminx weird, it's the fact that your opinion makes absolutely no logical sense that makes it weird.

I mean... In the same vein you could say that only n×n puzzles getting different variations is unfair to every other puzzle type.

Pyra is also the most popular puzzle after 2x2 and 3x3. Skewb is way less popular, meaning it doesn't need a master version.

Something like Redi Cube, with UWR solves being under 3 seconds
Honestly, all Redi Cube "records" with non-random-state scrambles should be completely ignored.

Our weekly comp is the only major source of people doing random-state Redi Cube scrambles (cubers.io uses Moyu-style scrambles, which shouldn't count), and you can see that the fastest people average more like 7 seconds. That's really fast, yes, and indeed for that reason I don't think it would be a great addition as an official WCA event, but it's not on the same level of "fast" as events like 222/pyra/skewb are; it's more on par with 3×3×3.

---

Also, to make this actually on-topic, in case people haven't noticed, our weekly comps have also had a random-state master pyraminx scramble generator since around July last year (written by yours truly, but also with credit to Mike for integrating it to the site), and the scramble sequences are of rather reasonable length (20-ish moves). That's one (minor) hurdle to becoming an official event out of the way.

I used Redi Cube as an arbitraty example because it is commonly proposed as a good candidate for a WCA event, and because it is fast.

I will admit that my knowledge of scrambles, scramble generation, and different states is very limited, so I cannot talk about that in any meaningful way (as I honestly don't understand it at all lol)

But honestly, in my opinion, the scrambles aren't all that long at all. I can get through one in less than 30 seconds or so. If anything, I think they've gotten shorter since I started competing in the Weekly Comps. But don't quote me on that.
