WCA Community Events Survey

tbh with new clock hardware, i can see more people getting interested and the event itself maintaining its popularity (i say maintain, not increase for obvious reasons). FTO on the other hand is wayyy more enjoyable for the majority of people getting into shape mods (based on the general sentiment i've seen amongst the populous), which probably warrants a rise in interest + demand. glad to see it might finally be added to the WCA's list of official events (like c'mon - i'll take a 95% chance as a given anyday)

I honestly don't like Team BLD as an official event.

The main reason for this is software and organization concerns. Considering the software for head to head rounds hasn't been implemented for several months now, I think adding a team event, which is a much bigger change than H2H, would be a nightmare for software and organization.

Also, as a smaller concern, I feel like having to speak out loud during the solve could be distracting to other solvers.

Yeah I agree. Also, if a world record is broken, who would have it? The speaker or the solver?

And I don’t think the event itself would be that interesting/unique. It’s just 3BLD but memorisation and execution done by 2 different people.

That is not the way it is typically done at all. It is usually solved with normal sighted 3x3x3 methods. That being said, it is possible the WR holders would solve it that way. Full memorization in inspection, then just call out the memo while the other person executes. For a Charlie Eggins / Tommy Cherry team, they can probably beat 7 seconds.

In cubing Contests, the UWR belongs to both the speaker and solver

I personally voted for FTO (would bring the most the the WCA as of rn and easiest to implement [it's already hosted unofficially at a lot of competitions]), Master Pyraminx (I'm biased I find it really fun, but again there is something unique about it), and Kilominx (a more accessible Megaminx without being trivial). I would like Mini Guildford and Teamblind, but I see how they'd be hard to host at competitions lol
