One-Answer WCA Competition and Regulations Question Thread

Thanks a lot

my speedcubing team wants to organize a comp together

Like @Keroma12 said, definitely sign up for it, you’ll get a couple of singles anyway, and there is a non-zero chance that you’ll get lucky and get an average.

When I organize competitions I have two goals: I want to compete, and I want to give other people the opportunity to compete. I organized a competition yesterday, there was one guy who took just over 6 minutes to solve a Megaminx. Since the time limit was 6:00 he DNFed his first two solves and didn’t get to do an average, but it was absolutely fine that he tried. I judged his first attempt, and my only regret is that he missed getting an official success by less than 7 seconds.
Thanks for the advice. I’m excited for my first comp.

Are you signed up for one, or are you waiting for one to show up near you on the WCA website?

EDIT: Competitions are a lot of fun. I underestimated everybody when they said that before I went to my first one. You'll have a blast.
I have signed up for it. February 16th, Cubing Peoria 2020.

I recently bought a Gan XS and a Gan i. If i were to go to a competition i would obviously use my Gan XS but would i be allowed to use my Gan i for warm up since it is not comp legal?

  • 3a) Competitors must provide their own puzzles for the competition.
    • 3a1) Competitors must be ready to submit their puzzles when they are called (see Regulation 2u).
    • 3a2) Puzzles must be fully operational, such that normal scrambling is possible.
    • 3a3) Polyhedral puzzles must use a color scheme with one unique color per face in the solved state. Each puzzle variation must have moves, states, and solutions functionally identical to the original puzzle.
    • 3a4) Puzzles must not have electronic components (e.g. Bluetooth or Wi-Fi capabilities, motors, sensors, lights).
This bit refers to the puzzles being submitted for the competition. Not any other puzzles. You are not using the Gan I for comp use, so it is allowed outside of competing. (3a4 is part of 3a).

Also how do you get the title of ‘Not a Moderator’ or ‘Former Clock NR Holder’?
For the first one, don't be a moderator. For the second one, get a clock national record (it may help to change your citizenship to a smaller country), then lose it to someone else.

(real answer: I think those titles used to be user-changeable (perhaps only for premium members?), but now it's a mod/staff privilege)

What's a "Platinum" or "Silver" member?

(Weird, the thing seems to be broken now. Well, you can still see the criteria there.)

So how do I get "Formerly former 5BLD mean WR holder until I got it back"?

Ok, thanks

when ranked, is it what country you are registered or where you set it?
