One-Answer WCA Competition and Regulations Question Thread

How about guests? Do they say "I'm with (name here)"? Or do they have to pay? Seems pretty unfair if they have to.

This is usually dependent on the venue, but for most smaller-scale competitions guests don't have to pay.

I've never been to a comp before, but I might go to Wildcat Holiday 2017.
I'm not really sure what to expect. Can anyone who has been to few comps tell me what I should expect?

This video is a great starting video

Its what I used for my first comp...
anyway, you should get a group/heat number via email or at the competition. When that group number is called, you place your cube on your scorecard and wait in the competitor waiting area (ask someone where it is if you can't find it) After that you will be called and you solve... You then sign, go back to the competitor waiting area wait to be called to solve again. After your 5th solve you take your cube and go socialize more :P

I just bought this clock and it had this crack when it came. Is it still comp legal?

I might be overreacting, but I want to make sure.

Am I allowed to cover the stackmat timer display with a sticky note?

Am I allowed to film a video of myself during FMC? (Assuming the camera obeys all current rules as per speedsolving)

I am going to my first competiton (link for my question is here https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/competitions/IncrediblePencilMania2018#1620-events) and it says cut-off time for pyraminx in 16 seconds but the time limit is 1 minute. I was wondering what the difference was and if I have to solve the puzzle in 16 seconds or a minute. Thank you.
You have to solve it in under 16 seconds at least once in your first two solves, if you don't then you wont be allowed to complete the average. If a minute passes and you are still solving then you have to stop that solve and it is counted as a DNF

The time limit (1min) is the time you have to solve the puzzle in otherwise you will be stopped mid solve and DNFd.
For the cutoff time, you have to get one of your first 2 solves under that time to be able to finish the average. If it's between those two (16 and 60sec) then you just get two solves recorded for that round because you didn't get under the cutoff time.

I believe it only takes one of the two under 16 seconds to get the remaining 3 attempts, typically.
