Hello,

I got a Valk 3 a few weeks ago and it was great for the first week right out of the box. Now it feels a little slower and it doesn't cornercutter very well. What are the steps I should take to make it great again? Thanks for any help.

I'd try loosening it a bit. The Valk can be pretty loose without any problems. Don't loosen it to much, or it will start locking up pretty bad when you try large cuts. I like my cubes as close as possible to that, without actually locking up.

One of my Valk 3s went through a "mid life crisis". It was sluggish, it is still a bit slower than out of the box, but it got better.

I'd say clean it, lube it and keep using it, it'll become REALLY smooth a but more sluggish than out of the box, better than in "mid life" IMHO..

The other Valk 3 I own is too new, and has magnets, I may never feel that "mid life crisis" from it.

(Edit for clarity.)

This.

I suspect the more viscous core lube slowly leaks onto the pieces, gumming it up. My black Cubicle premium had become so sluggish after about a month that it was a paperweight for a few weeks until I broke it down, wiped the lube off the pieces, then reassembled and re-tensioned.

My stock stickerless hasn't been as bad but definitely slower than new. Maru will fix it up for a few solves, but I'm afraid to put anything too viscous on the pieces because it doesn't seem to like that.

I just got done lubing my magnetic Valk 3. (custom not cubicle), I used a small amount of Traxxas 10k, and it seemed to get rid of the plastic on plastic feeling from the internals edges/torpedos part.

I probably should re-do my normal Valk 3... it is a bit heavy feeling for my taste. :/.

It's crazy how different people's individual experiences can be. I have to lube my Valk regularly to slow it down because it keeps getting too fast.

Anybody else have this problem with their WuQue?

I tore mine 3/4 of the way down last night to wipe out most of the lube and replace it with lighter lubricants. I noticed some texture on the back side of the internal edges so I took a closer look and on all my internal edge pieces I have this deterioration (see pics). I'm not sure if it was like this from the factory or not, but none of the other piece types have this, just the large internal edge pieces. I have only lubed the cube with Cubicle Wt 5, Lubicle Silk, and Maru which are all reputable lubricants, not known for deteriorating plastic.

Is this by any chance the "1st batch" defect that some customers reported on early WuQue purchases?

Yes, that is fairly common if you were to buy the wuque early on. They actually released two versions of the wuque, the old and new mold. The old mold was recalled because of the texture on the internals and edges causing issues with the cube. In general, for me personally it does affect cube performance, but not enough for me to bother changing it out for a new 4x4, as I don't really do a whole lot of 4x4 as it is.

I contacted Cameron from SCS when I got my old mold wuque and he said that he'd replace it if I sent it in, but I didn't have original packaging any more so I didn't bother (per shipping return policy). He was, however, nice enough to send me an invoice for a wuque 50% off in the future if I decide that the old mold isn't good enough.

I believe that Qiyi posted something on their instagram about the whole issue. Yours is definitely the old mold.

Over the last few weeks my valk has been corner twisting up to once every hundred solves and I'm wondering why. I have left it at factory tensions and only ever lubed it with silicone spray and maru.

I am confident it is not a fake so it should not really be in this thread- we need a thread for problems with puzzles

You may have the tensions too loose. This will allow corner twists to happen more easily, and also lead to catches which result in corner twists... double whammy. I started with my Valk at factory tensions but eventually tightened it and it eliminated most catching.

Can anyone with a black WuHua confirm that yours also has primary plastic internals?

I have the entire QiYi "Wu" series of puzzles in black plastic, and the WuHua is the only one that has visible primary plastic on the inside. The internal edge pieces as well as the corner stalks seem to be primary. I know my WuQue is black all the way through, but admittedly I haven't taken out any of the pieces to see if the 5x5 or 7x7 have any primary inside (though I can't see any just by spreading apart the pieces).

The only reason I ask if this is normal is because I just got my WuJi last night and it has the exact same dry, scratchy, papery feel out of the box that the WuQue and WuShuang had. The WuHua didn't feel like that at all and it has a much more buttery plastic feel like an old Weilong V2.
