One-Answer WCA Competition and Regulations Question Thread

Are you allowed to just start doing blindfolded during normal 3x3 or OH? Similar to how you're allowed to compete in normal 3x3 OH if you're faster with OH.

  • A1c) A competitor participating in an event must be able to fulfil the event's requirements (e.g. know how to solve the puzzle). A competitor must not compete with expectation of a DNF result or an intentionally poor result. Penalty: disqualification of the attempt (DNF) or disqualification from the event (see Regulation 2j), at the discretion of the WCA Delegate.
So almost surely not -- I can't imagine anyone becoming faster at BLD than sighted solving, so this would be an intentionally poor result. And for nearly everyone, doing OH during normal 3x3x3 speedsolve would not be allowed.

Gianfranco is faster at BLD than sighted.

Of course, he's probably the only one.

You must not have checked the regulations at all, as they are very explicit on this.

3h2) Puzzles whose coloured plastic is visible inside the puzzle (e.g. "stickerless" puzzles) are permitted. This does not include the following puzzles:
  • 3h2a) Puzzles with transparent parts. Exception: An overlay sticker (see Regulation 3l).

It depends.
If u don't have timers or u don't know anyone who has timers u have to buy them but if u know ppl with timers then u can borrow their timers.
If u need to buy the timers and ur worried about the money than u can have a participation fee so it will pay back.
I think finding a venue and a delegate is a harder than getting timers.

Hi, just wondering if you have a NxNxN cube and at the end of the solve the U face is turned anticlockwise/clockwise by 90 degrees, but then the R face is turned anticlockwise/clockwise 44 degrees. Does that count as a +2 or DNF?

Basically One side is turned 90 degrees and then another one's turned 44 degrees.

So i just went to my 2nd comp and when i went there u noticed there was a table full of puzzles, mirror cube, skewb, square 1, etc. and i remember seeing that type of thing at my first comp, is this just a regular thing people do and just display all their puzzles? or did the organizers put those out for us to try out new puzzles? Thanks!

It's very common for people to take their cubes out and set them on the tables. Personally, I never understood that, as it's pretty much an easy way for cubes to get stolen. The organizers generally wouldn't do that (unless you have super-nice and trusting organizers). :p

On the other hand, you might have seen the table that the vendor there set up. Oftentimes, cube vendors will come to competitions and put cubes out for people to try and possibly buy, but they're always there monitoring it.
