Man, I just don't know about my AoLong V2. A few posts up, I asked about corner rattling, and I don't view that as an issue anymore, but my big complaint with this cube is it is extremely sluggish and I just can't get it to speed up.

I've torn it down and wiped out all the lube 3 times. I think previously I had over lubed it, so right now I have the hardware lubed with Cubicle wt 5, wt 4 between the core and centers and just a tiny bit of wt 1 on the pieces where they contact at the torpedoes/ corner stalks. I even changed the core, wondering if my screws just weren't very straigh and it was causing a harsher mesh. I am now using a red Cube4You core.

I'm starting to think I might have the tensions too tight. Problem is, if I loosen the tensions any more the cube feels squishy and doesnt want to hold its shape very well. I've just about concluded that you can't have this cube both fast and stable.

Does any of this sound normal for the AoLong or is mine just a dud / set up wrong?

To me it just sounds like a regular ol' Aolong!

Moyu HuaChuang is poppy and slow

Hey Everyone,

I got my first 5x5, the HuaChuang, about 5 months ago, and I was disappointed, as it was not what I was told it was in reviews.
My HuaChuang is very slow and locky, and when I loosen it to a speed that is bearable, it is unstable and pops a lot.

How can I get it to a decent speed and not have it pop or lock? Is this just how big cubes are?

Thanks!

I'm afraid it is either defective or you were told it was better than it really is. It certainly is not on par with other newer 5x5s and certainly not on par on quality vs price. I don't know much about big cubes and I'm a very slow solver of big cubes but I think the HuaChuang needs some careful tensioning and lubing and a lot of breaking in before it is great. Depending on how good you are at that it could be much easier to just buy a new one, like the Yuxin or the BoChuang. I have a Cyclone Boys, which is not as good as the Yuxin but it's decent. Of course it locks up but most of it is because my inaccurate turning. Otherwise I'm quite happy with it and it's even cheaper. If you want a very good cube at a more than reasonable price I'd say go with the Yuxin 5x5. If you can go to a competition or know a more expert solver I would take your HuaChuang to somebody that can tell you if it is defective of it just needs breaking in and setting up.

Thanks a bunch for your reply. It's helped out a lot, and I will try tensioning and lubing my HuaChuang now. I'll also get into to doing some solves! If it doesn't get any better, I will probably end up buying a new 5x5. It would be a shame, as the HuaChuang is really expensive, so it would be a pain to not use it D:

Thanks!

Glad I could help. Yeah, it would be a pain. I paid like $24 for an AoSu and now you can get better 4x4s at like $4-5 but, at least my Aosu is pretty decent. But when I thought of buying a 5x5 I did not want to spend like $35 or more and I didn't want to buy a cheap but crappy Shengshou and invest a lot of time breaking it in, modding, lubing... When CB started selling their 5x5 and I read the reviews I went and bought one. If I had waited a bit more I'd probably picked a Yuxin for not much more. Right now I'm doing the same for 6x6 and 7x7. Honestly I'm not fast enough to spend $40 - $60 or more in an Aoshi or an Aofu GT and I'm not sure if the Shengshou will be fun to solve with so, I'm waiting for some new big cubes to arrive :)

New TangLong issue

Hello,

I unboxed my brand new TangLong yesterday and there is a sound as if a small piece of the cube (or of something else) is bouncing around inside. Has anyone ever experienced this with a new cube? Is it worth taking apart to see if I can get at it?

I love this cube so far and everything about it, but this is thing is so irritating! It breaks my concentration so much that I can't even get below 65 seconds anymore ;)

Help, whats wrong with my 4x4?

I bought a Cyclone Boys stickerless 4x4 quite a long time ago and I found it a few days ago. However, my cube locks up when I try to turn it. All of the layers just lock up and won't turn. I've tried disassembling the cube and finding the problem that is causing this, but I can't seem to figure it out. I mean, the layers do turn if I kind of force the turn a few times but then it gets stuck again... (Sorry if that wasn't clear... I'm not sure how I'd describe it)

I've tried to fix this for about an year now...

If anyone is familiar with this problem, could you please let me know why this is happening? And what can I do about it?

Thank you!

Most of the time when that happens its an internal piece that gets stuck between the core edges. This same thing happened on my SS 4x4 and I fixed it by realigning one of the small internals.

I had the opposite problem with mine. After dropping it one layer was terribly loose. A small flick could be enough for a 360 turn. Disassembly didn't help so I though I'd broken the core. I fixed it by squeezing it really hard until it clicked.

Hi everyone,
I just got the Dayan 2x2 and it doesn't feel right. The corner cutting isn't very good and it feels very bumpy. I got it off of Amazon and can still return it but I'm wondering if it may be fake or if it's just not tensioned properly. Any help? Thanks

This is very similar to what I thought of mine when I first got it. Bumpy, mediocre corner cutting... and it popped a lot as well. After many, many solves (thousands) it started to break in a little and then I disassembled it, lubed the core and the pieces and tensioned it. Now it's the best 2x2 I have but reverse corner cutting is not great, because I have it quite tight to avoid pops (it hasn't popped once since I lubed and tensioned it). Otherwise, even though it retains some of the bumpiness, it's quite smooth and it does not catch or anything like I suffer with other 2x2s like the LingPo or CB.

The cube in the picture doesn't look fake; however, the silver screw indicates that it is the new plastic which means it will need more time to break in.
