I warm up by solving some really tiny cubes... usually in the 5x5x5 through 8x8x8 range, but sometimes even a few 4x4x4 solves. I find that's good for warming up recognition/lookahead. If I feel like doing a particular cube (or I get a really good solve on it) I'll stick with that for a while; otherwise I'll go do another puzzle or something non-cubing-related.
On the off chance that I want to do some serious physical cube stuff, I generally do a bunch of random 3x3x3 and 3OH solves until I feel fast enough to actually start timing stuff.
