Your thoughts on the new Private forum?

I honestly thought that it was a half way decent idea from a business perspective and also usually the people who want to keep the site going tend to have some knowledge. You say that people cannot buy their way into intelligence, but if 'these' people bought into intelligence, then their first post would be erased because they aren't intelligent enough to be in the private forum.

I don't know how the application form for the private forum is set up, but I think that premium members probably already have some knowledge or else they wouldn't want to support this site. So I would have to go ahead and support this idea even though it may be a little corrupted.
Just because they have money doesnt mean they have knowledge.
People would end up paying to get into the private forum. This would defeat the 'noiselsss' purpose of the forum.

People should pay, not because they want in part of the forum, but because the forum is a place worth keeping around.

Edit: Mods/Private forum people

I am requesting to join the private forum officially now. If you would take it under consideration that would be great.
Thanks.

it's fair. "Justin" and "Brian" earned the ability to be able to talk, as people who can post can earn the ability to post in the new forum section.

Justin and Brian, may be cleverer than the rest of the class, however if the rest of the class are not allowed to discuss things with Justin and Brian, they will never learn, so it's a vicious circle.

I think it fits in well.

Ok, here's a continuation of the metaphor.

After class, the class sometimes talks about what happened and they can ask each other for help, and if Brian or Justin know the answer they can help too.

derp

Nope, it doesn't... Other people are allowed to talk in the classroom too (the public forum in this case), let's just say that Justin and Brian are the only ones being allowed to talk to the headmaster for example.
There you have a better approach of the situation.

Yes okay, sounds better.

EDIT: 500th post.

We're not owed anything on this forum. Being a member here is a privilege not a right etc.
Why is it a big deal that certain members get to post in a section?

Was there this much uproar about premium memberships? Some of you are too sensitive

For me, it's the principle of the whole thing. Some people that aren't "in the club" do post quality posts (for the most part), but because they aren't buddy buddy with all the "popular" cubers, they are ignored. It's how they chose the people who can post that bothers me. They picked all the well known people and left out the lesser known that still may post quality posts. I myself, don't think I have ever posted garbage, although I personally don't care to be a part of this separation. I'm just using myself as an example. There are several others that don't post garbage who were ignored. It's all silly, really, but they can simply delete all the nonsense threads if they really wanted to get rid of them.

They're not done adding people

Really? Could you perhaps show me where the "Delete all nonsense threads" button is? We don't have time to sort through all the garbage, and then deal with all the "WHY WAS MY THREAD DELETED??!?" messages/threads that inevitably come afterwards. And if all the garbage threads are removed, the people posting them will just pollute the remaining good threads.

The idea of the private forum is to improve the forum, not make money from it. We don't want people buying their way in, we want quality discussion. Getting that is easier said than done. Whether you are in the private forum or not, please think when you post, write so people can understand you, and provide insight that others haven't already posted. Learn from the forum, use it, but don't ruin it. Help newbies get involved, we were all there at some point. Let's grow the speedcubing hobby, and make everyone feel welcome. It will make this site a better resource for all of us.

Please explain how the private forum does this.

Jeez, talk about impatient. Just wait for the form to be ready, and then if your posts are so great you'll get let in without a problem. The reason the well-known people got in first is because, well, they're well-known. Nobody has time to go through all the members and check their posts, so of course the obvious people are going to be put in first, and then the rest of the people will be put in later. Don't criticize the idea of the forum just because you have such a need to post in a handful of topics that you can't wait to get considered.
