Your thoughts on the new Private forum?

On this other, smaller forum I used to be a part of, there was a similar idea that was implemented, and it ended up working really well. Granted, it was used mostly for forum ideas by mods, but I think the same raw idea applies here.

All in all, I think it's a great idea, and if you want access to the private forums, then you should improve your post quality. :)

Sorry if any of this was said before. x.x

I'm saying that that system might as well be put on the whole forum
Yet my entire point was that it should be open to the entire forum, but those who aren't already in the private forum have their responses filtered by moderators to avoid unnecessary or nonconstructive comments. This plan will still result in an area where useful discussions are occurring as opposed to the rest of the forum, which is apparently degrading.

Oh my bad :T I misinterpreted. That's what I get for skimming instead of reading :u

I dunno what's the fuss about not being on the private forum. It sounds stressful to me, like I need to maintain a certain level of 'pro-ness' to post, and then proof-read and think over it 10 times before clicking the post button. I'm on the list probably because I use to contribute to BLD discussions, but other than that I have nothing else that nobody already knows.

I'd rather just post in the public forums as it's more comfortable for me.

lets face facts, none of you will ever look at the other forum.
Not true at all I'm afraid. Nobody in the private forum would possibly think that the public forum is useless to them. That would indeed be a terrible thing. There are plenty of people who aren't in the private forum who have interesting and constructive things to to say and there are many threads that are worth posting in. Don't worry, the public forum will not be abandoned.

Why would they care about the public forum if the private one is supposedly better.
If I offered you a Ferrari or a transit van, you would go nowhere near the transit van.

The transit van got more space for storage, so it would be preferred in some situations (like moving to a new house), just like the public forums.
Competitions and stuff will probably never appear in the private area, so people will still use the public forums.

I would personally choose the transit van, I care more about how I can use things than how I look with them.

But I like being able to see the discussion ;_;
We could do this, but having it as public read-only allows anyone to read the information posted there

You both did quote my "And after the insiders are done with a topic, it could still be released into the wild (moved to a normal subforum) for everybody to read and discuss" but apparently ignored it.

I'd like to post a real fact, but I don't want the infraction.

Like has been said before right here in this thread, there are and always will be good reasons to use the rest of the forum. Much of the time I don't even look in which forum a thread is but just go by the title. Yesterday I even suddenly realized I had already written some posts in the private forum (the delegate discussion) without noticing it.

Why would you immediately jump on looks? Speed is the main difference between the 2 other than price. Looks is usually at the bottom. I'd go with Ferrari because of the speed.

I fail to see what speed equals in this instance.

I think I am neither. And you do not know me.

I feel like a majority of the complainers are looking at this new subforum wrong.

Instead of looking at this as a form of exclusion, look at it as a form of incentive.

If you look at the forum now, and actually read the discussion it is interesting, and most of the time thought provoking.

The other side of this are the people who feel like the posters in the private forum wont touch the rest of the forum now.

Think about it like this:
1. Because of the number of people in the subforum theres not going to be as many threads, meaning theres still a much larger pool of potentially great threads in the public forum.
2. I would be willing to bet that a majority of the people in the private forum, and definitely PJK would like to be able to include everyone that actively posts in the private forum, because that would mean everyone is posting good posts, relevant information, and the general noise of the forum as a whole will be virtually non-existent. If this is truly the case, then no one is going to just stop adding people because they are happy with the roster. The more people that post intelligent posts the higher the diversity of opinions and thoughts, and the better the discussion is for it.
3. Look at the people who are in the subforum. Im sure that a majority of them have posted in threads started by people not on that list. Why would they ignore every other person now?

When I think Ferrari, I think about looks, but of course speed is a property the Ferrari would have too.
But I still don't get why I would get it for the speed, if it is to prevent getting late it won't happen to me, I'm the kind of person who stands outside the door 20 minutes before I'm expected(and that is an easy thing to do if you tend to be late), and if it is for looking awesome or showing off, then it's like I said before, I prefer versatility, and IIRC a transit van got a heck of a lot more room for storage than a Ferrari.
Then we also have the problem that the Ferrari is in danger of being stolen, sure the transit van can be stolen too, but I think most people would aim for the expensive one: Ferrari.

But enough talk about cars used for comparison, there are plenty of threads that won't appear in the private area from what I understand, so people won't stop posting in the public part for being in the private one, and there will hopefully still be people who will try to get permission to post in the private area, so constructive posts will probably not disappear.
You can still read the topics, so that is not a problem, and if you want to post there you will be able to fill in the form that will get implemented soon, and if you don't get in then you can just wait for some time and that thread will be reposted(moved?) into the public area.

Sure, the problem would be with the elitism, but the only thing you have to do in order to get in there is to make good posts, and not things that just clutter the thread, so if you can't do that then you don't deserve to be posting in the private area, sure it splits the community into two parts: good posters and bad posters, but those groups did already exist in an unofficial way, take Jorghi for example, he is known to be a bad poster, while Stefan is known to be a good poster, then there is of course tons of members that isn't as known as these two, but the known good posters are the one with the privilege to post in the private part, so in order to get in there you have to be known for making good posts, it's not that hard, but it may take a while since you may not be able to be productive on every kind of topic, I'm not good at most things for example, but when I see a question about something I know well enough to answer I'll do that.

I simply don't understand the complaints. If you feel like the only good threads will be the ones in the private forum, simply make a "regular" thread and discuss

If you think there will be no quality since its not in the private forum, stop being an ***** and realize just because one can post in the private forum, does not mean one will not post in the regular forums.

I personally just see this as a way to wake most of the forum members up to make them realize they need to post higher quality content. The admins/moderators certainly have been complaining/talking about the low quality on the forums for quite a while.

edit: and for what it's worth, no I can not post in the private forum. Nor do I care. The new forum changes nothing significant.

I actually disagree with this completely.

This, if done right can significantly improve the quality of posts all over the forums.

(this is also my reasoning against Stefans suggestion of hiding it, then releasing it to the wild)

I feel like, not only will it motivate people to post better quality posts, but it will also serve as a guideline on how to post.
Being able to see a concentration of some of the 'best posters' on the forum should give some direction on what the content of posts should include.
