4×4 yau method help for beginners

Hi, i was just wondering how i could improve my times on the 4×4 im using yau method. I just learned it about a week ago and i solve it in about 3-4mins.

Yau cross edges

I average about 2.00 - 2.30 on 4x4 with yau method.
Just looking for some advice on the first three cross dedges.
Because I don't have very good look ahead so I waste a lot of time looking for pieces.

Slow turning is a good way to go, also look up some example solves online.

A while ago I analysed a load of top solvers' splits and found the following:
10% F2C
32% Complete cross & centres
24% Edge pairing
34% 3x3

So for 1:25, your 3x3 stage is great (ignore the last poster! ) and your F2C is on par. Your cross and centres are a bit slow but your edge pairing is the worst.

Edit: just checking, but your split times are averages, right? Not just a single solve? And you had a fair representation of parity solves in there?

Did you have a typo? You said you average 1.20 - 1.35 but if you add up edge pairing and 3x3 that's already 2 minutes?

It's pretty obvious that he's giving the overall time at which he finishes each step.

The time splits are based on average.

I'll watch some example solves and work on edge pairing+centres

10% F2C
32% Complete cross & centres
24% Edge pairing
34% 3x3

yeah thats pretty slow for edge pairing. 25 seconds is just too long for edge pairing.

So im having some troubles with getting sub 1 averages. I have gotten sub 1 solves but not averages. I avereage around 1.10-1.15. Sometimes I get 1.05 averages but rarely.
Here are my splits:

F2C-8s
F3E-8s=16
L4C-12s=28
4thE-4s=32
L8E-15=47
F3L-9=56
OLL+PAR-10=1.06
PLL+PAR-7=1.13

BTW this is just roughly my splits. Hope fully you guys can give me some tips on what to improve on and how to do it. Thx.

Yea, so I think I maybe having the kind of same problems as you are now.
I use half centres now and that made me way faster but my l4c are still about 10-12 seconds.

4x4 Yauduction Help Thread

So I just got a 4x4 ( Weisu - my first 4x4 ) a week ago . I started cubing around 7 months ago and average 20 on 3x3. My times on 4x4 range from 2:00 - 2:40. I normally complete Yauduction by 1:50 to 2:10 and that sucks . I particularly suck at first three cross edges and Last 4 Centers . So I just started this thread so that people could post tips and tricks to improve these two which I suppose would be beneficial to all. All help would be appreciated

Post solves or splits, no one can give specific advice when your being so vague. my only advice would be to practice, I use Hoya on 4x4 so I'm not as experienced with Yau.

Practise.
Track cross pieces during centres
Work out first centre while doing final gross piece and then the next one etc.
Track final cross piece
3-2-3 edge pairing
Work out first F2L pair
Make sure you can predict parity going into last layer.
