What's a reasonable pace to learn full OLL?

So I finally decided to learn full OLL, seeing as it saves A LOT of moves (a random example of the moves I use now, going from the yellow bar to full yellow face: F R U R' U' F' R U R' U R U2 R' R U R' U R U2 R' R U R' U R U2 R', which could be done WAY faster by just performing the algorithm F U R U' R' U R U' R' F'.

The first algorithm got picked up by my muscle memory in a couple of minutes of repeating it, but I do realize that it isn't only the algorithm that I have to learn, but also what the pattern itself looks like so I can recognize it and act accordingly.

That, and the fact that learning too fast at once will only confuse me made me thinking about learning 1 pattern and its corresponding algorithm a week, which will include: memorizing the algorithm, and then solve the cube lots of times and perform the algorithm when the case pops up, so that I learn to recognize it, too.

However, 1 algorithm a week means that I'll know them all in 57 weeks, which is 1 full year.

So the question; how long did it take you guys? What do you think is a reasonable time to go through all algorithms, without getting confused and mixing different cases up?

Depends on how committed to learning it you are. You can learn 5 a day if you are really committed, but I think 1 a day is enough for most slightly lazy people. I think you should find better algs for your 2-look first, though.

maybe learn how not to do 3 sunes in a row to get OLL first?
a good pace would be 6 a week though

Yeah, I could also do the first part excluding the sunes so that I get a yellow cross, and then use 2-look OLL to complete the face. I was about to proceed straight away to learning full OLL instead of 2-look, but when I think about it, chances of a case popping up that i learnt is 1/57 for now, and 2/57 tomorrow and so on, and for the rest of the cases I'd still have to repeat the sune algorithm 3 times. :fp I'd be better off learning 2-look OLL first.

Agreed, I'll start learning these. Thanks everyone for your input! :)

With a good approach, you can easily learn about 35 in a week or two. Learn a few basic algorithms like the Sune and the 6-move T. Many algorithms are combinations of algorithm-bits, and the more you know, the easier it becomes to learn a new algorithm by recognizing old pieces.

Shameless self-advertisement on this theme: http://cubefreak.net/Fridrich/OLL.html

Finishing the rest will take longer, but another month is a comfortable pace.

I hate everyone on this forum for not telling me about the awesome bowtie alg on that site :D

Thanks, like I read on your site, it's better to start learning Two-Look OLL first. Ima do that for now. :)

I'm glad a newbie like me finally managed to do someone a favour in some way. :D

This community is great but sadly I can't help out other people just yet cause I'm new myself, so I have to keep on bothering others with newbie questions. :p

Thanks again everyone for the input!
