Get your PLLs and OLLs faster.
Learn 2-sided PLL recognition.
Turn a it slower during the cross and look for your first F2L earlier.

TPS is above average. That's about it.

The cube looks too fast for your own good. You keep overshooting and locking up. That's what I see in general.

For the first solve:
Easy cross and first 2 f2l pairs. This would have been a gold split for some fast cubers. As you get faster those get faster. This took you around 3.5 seconds.

You finish the 2nd pair at 0:16. Do you see the hesitation? I do. You don't know what to do next because you haven't planned for it. The next two pairs take you longer than the first part of the solve did.

You tried being cute with a WV case. For those two cases, the algorithm you tried works only when the white corner in the slot is oriented towards the bottom with the yellow face. Else, you do U' (R U' R') U2 (R U' R') U2 R U R'. Hopefully now you know so you don't screw it up when you try it next time :)

I dunno what you did with the OLL there. It was a Sune and then a Bruno. For the 2-gen headlight COLL for headlights, you hold the headlights to your left, and execute R U R' U' (R U' R') U2 (R U' R') U2 R U R', which happens to be part of the WV case I explained earlier. Huh.

The PLL would be sub-1 if you didn't lock up at the end. Your execution is very nice, but you're overshooting a lot.

I tried the scramble before I looked at your solve and got a 9.96. It's a very easy scramble.

Solve 2:
That cross was actually garbage. You should have recognized that orange green and blue pieces were on the same face, unsolved, and that there were two edges unsolved, not just one. With your orientation you could have solved the cross like B D' L' R' D, which actually takes only one more move than U R' F' R and solved both edges.

The F2L was okay.

Again, you keep locking up with your algorithms on OLL and PLL, mostly because your cube keeps overshooting. See the pattern here?

Solve 3:
Your cross this time was nowhere near as good as the first one, simply because it wasn't as easy as the first one. It took you 3.5 seconds.
In general, if your reason for being color neutral is to have an easier cross, revert to a color after 5 seconds of inspection if you don't immediately spot one. This reversion happens less and less as you become more used to color neutrality.

There are brief pauses between when you do your F2L solves, the most obvious one between F2L-1 and F2L-2. Wasted moves in F2L-3 and F2L-4, which were both simple cases.

And you keep locking up with your OLL and PLL.

What you need to do to improve:
Use lookahead to supplant your good execution (better than mine, mine's garbage lol :p) and over time as you get better speed up.

Drill your OLL's and PLL's if you don't want to give up your cube so that they don't lock up.

If you know special cases, make sure you recognize them properly. They are a time boost.

Okey, things that need improvement:
-cross (maybe learn how to do xcrosses, since you are CN it is nice ability)
-cross to F2L transition needs a lot of work
F2L is okey I guess
-F2L to OLL and OLL to PLL transition is trash.
-Drill your OLLs
-Get a slower cube, you overshoot way too much.
Overall your biggest problem are transitions from one step to another step.
Nice solves, I need to improve too.

PS. ROLL is nice on OLL to PLL transition :D It is always nice to know few cases. OLLCP is a thing too.

3*3 rubix cube (beginner)

I'm still a beginner at solving cubing, and I am stuck at the 40-60 second barrier (recent P.B is 45 sec). I have posted a video of one of my solves, any help would be appreciated.

Solved using
Cross
F2L
2-look-OLL
Mixture of 2-look PLL and 1-look PLL. I should soon know all PLL

I cannot seem to get my cross time down, even after using inspection to attempt to locate and solve the cubes.
Also, in F2L I spend a great deal of time looking for the pairs (I have tried slowing down, but I still couldn't multitask).

Thanks

Getting better at fingertricks would help a lot. For the cross, practice trying to get it with less than 10 moves. For f2l, whichever piece you see first, find the match for that piece.
Hope this helped

I use the ZZ method with COLL+EPLL for all but Sune and Antisune cases. At the moment I'm working on planning full EOLine during inspection (I often have to pause to look around the cube to find the line edges), and I'm working on trying to minimize the pauses between each step. I don't really know a better way to do this other than practice?

Although any general critique is welcome, I'm specifically looking for critique on things like my turning style and F2L efficiency.

I would say work on lookahead most. Vids about lookahead using CFOP are perfectly fine for ZZ too. Also turning style is really bad. You should use more fingertricks and less wristling.
Maybe I am not that much into ZZ, but I can give you one general tip for EOline, which helped me a lot. So you know whast edges are bad. You have to put them on F/B face mailny using R/L/U/D moves, what came handy for me was taking my line edges at least on D face or L/R so I got easy access to them. Also sometimes you can do F' instead of F, which is less fingertrick friendly, but gives you better line case. I don't, if you know what I mean. I'll do one example even my EO suck :(

Here we can see what I mean: last F2 got kinda "skiped" in my solution. No rotations, and wide moves too.

U2 R2 B2 D' L2 U R2 L2 F2 D2 R2 F U F2 U B' F' R D L2 B' L'
You: x2 R F' L2 (U' D) x U' x' D R2 D'
Me: x2 R D F B' U B

F2 R2 D' B2 F2 D' F2 L2 D2 U' R2 B R U R2 L2 B' R U L' B2
You: x2 R' F R L (U' D) y R' y' R L2 D'
Okey your plan is nice, but why did you rotate cube for only 1 move??
On last two I think I gave you idea what I mean about this EO setup to line. I hope you understand me =)

One more for F2L =)
B2 D L2 B2 L2 B2 D U2 L2 U2 F2 R D2 B D2 U L2 B F' D L' F(most moves on that one)
x2 R' B' R' (U D') B' R2 D' <---- There you did oposite of my concept resulting in bad case, could have been ez EOcross...
You:L U' R' L' U' R U' R U2 L U L2 R' U R U' R' U R' U2 L'
First of all, you don't need to solve left block (whole) and then right, solve what is better lol
You: R' U2 R U R U2 R R U R' U R U' R'
Me: U F2 M' U2 x' L' U2 L U2 R U R2 U' R U' L' R' U' R L U2 L' U' L2 U L' U' L' U2 L
I would try to do EOcross here it should be better. I was trying to do it kinda same as you (block than block), last pair could be inserted better (mine), but it gives me sune
My LL:
U R U R' U R U2 R'
U M2 U' M2 U' M' U2 M2 U2 M' U'

I do not even know if u get what I mean...
Lookahead, EOline, Fingertricks, Practice, small amount of magic-should be okey
Less rotations pls, it's ZZ...

A 3x3 solve by me (11.84, pb).

scramble: R2 U2 R2 B2 L2 U2 F' R2 U2 L B2 F R2 U L2 U L U2 F2
inspection: x2 y'
cross: D' R' D' R2 y R2 (I dont know if you hate L moves but why not do x2 D2 F R2 U L2? saves you a cube rotation and easier to excute than two D'?
F2L-1: U' R U' R' y2 U' R U R' (skip the y2 and insert with L U L', because of the rotation the execution is slower and instead of having the pair in back left it is now in front right)
F2L-2: y U2 R' U2 R R U R' ( I assume you did R R as a setup and then pair it up with an insert. However I hope you will now know the case that R' U2 R2 U R' is faster :)_
F2L-3: y2 U2 R U R' U2 R U R' ( just do a y and then you have both f2l cases on the right which will save you another cube rotation in f2L4. So y U2 then either solves RG or RB case. I would prefer to solve redgreen first because it will give my last pair in front right. I know all wv from that side. So y U2 R'U R U2' R'U R )
F2L-4: y' U R U' R' U R U' R'(In that case I would probably have done the same Except I would have skipped Oll by doing: y'U R U' R U R' U R' U' R U R U2 R2 to skip oll ( would leave me a zperm
OLL: U2 R U2 R2' U' R2 U' R2' U2 R (Alright)
PLL: skip (awesome)

pb by far but only due to luck, my F2L seems to suck and I'd appreciate suggestions. :)

Hope this helped you

Hope this helped you

Thank you a lot!

I do actually hate L moves. I recently tried to include more L moves in my F2L as well but there are still tons of cases where I can't solve the according mirror with Ls. Your cross helps a lot though (I was somewhat excited to be able to 1-look the cross so I instantly started. ._.).
Your comments about F2L-1 and F2L-3 are very helpful, thank you. :)

... Loads of good advice ...
Thanks so much for all your help. I've worked through your examples, and it's obvious I still have a lot of room for improvement. It gives me hope that I'll can get sub 15 one day. :)

I would say work on lookahead most. Vids about lookahead using CFOP are perfectly fine for ZZ too.
I've been working on lookahead lately, and it's mainly this that's helped me go from 30 seconds to 20 seconds. I still have a long way to go though. I'll watch some more videos, thanks.

Also turning style is really bad. You should use more fingertricks and less wristling.
I know my turning is very bad. I learned on a really bad Rubik's brand which I used from 2001 to 2013... 12 years of very bad habits are hard to break. Do you have any advice on how I can break these habits, or is lots of focused practice the only thing I can do?

Maybe I am not that much into ZZ, but I can give you one general tip for EOline, which helped me a lot. So you know whast edges are bad. You have to put them on F/B face mailny using R/L/U/D moves, what came handy for me was taking my line edges at least on D face or L/R so I got easy access to them. Also sometimes you can do F' instead of F, which is less fingertrick friendly, but gives you better line case. I don't, if you know what I mean.
I think my problem is that I rush my inspection, so I often don't think very hard about my line edges when solving EO, and sometimes lose them. You can see how in some solves I waste a second or two looking for a line edge that I put in the wrong place. Yesterday I started trying to plan out the whole EOline in inspection and solving it with my eyes closed.

You: x2 R' F R L (U' D) y R' y' R L2 D'
Okey your plan is nice, but why did you rotate cube for only 1 move??
I don't know any good fingertrick for B', so I often do y R' y' or x' U' x depending on where my fingers are. Do you know any good fingertrick for B'?

Thank you so much for the help. I think I do get what you mean. I thought my EOLine was OK for my level, but you've shown me that it's a lot less efficient than I thought it was. :)

I recommend you to look for some avgs from fast ppl. So than turn on 0.25x and watch for fingertricks. Use them. For B moves I use this unknown finger (between pinky and middle, no idea what is named) B' right hand, B left hand. Or just half-rotate. Work on Ds most, you use them really much, and they are awful. I think TPS helped you to sub-20, not lookahead, cause there is none I would say. Other thing is efficientsy, you use ZZ and on avg you got 65 moves(?). Try to do it in 55. I would practice like this:
1. Unlimited inspection
2. BLD EOline+predicting 1st pair.
3. Non-stop F2L+maybe predicting (partly?) OLL, cmon you have few of those.
4. End solve
5. Scramble
6. Repeat

Fingertricks+Lookahead will be the hardest for you. Without that sub-15 should be easy. (I did same)

I think that is all.

This is my 48.67 squan Ao5 (nooooo...)

I've been doing it for around 2 months, I learned from this tutorial, pretty much exactly like he shows. This is around what I consistently average. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Not bad for two months, nice job on the solves!

In terms of critiquing your solves, I would suggest learning the 8 algorithms for Corner Permutation. You seem to be using the standard beginners method for this step, which can take up a lot of time. On a side note, the CP algs are quite easy to learn, as they can be looked at as solving PBL on 2x2 in the Ortega/Varasano method.

I would also suggest learning the algs for EO. The bare minimum needed are 1 edge on bottom 1 edge on top, 2 opposite edges on top and bottom, and 2 adjacent edges on top and bottom. I would still recommend learning the rest while you're at it, but you can still be decently fast without knowing them.

After you learn CP and EO cases, I would recommend delving into advanced cube-shape. This is kinda like first learning how to do F2L on a 3x3, as it might slow you down at first, but it will make you really fast once you practice it enough. It's not the easiest thing to learn, however it will really help you improve.

In terms of EP cases, I would focus on these after you've learned what I've suggested above. It's fine to learn cases here and there, but they are not the first thing you should be focusing on when first starting off, at least in my humble opinion.

Hope this helps :)

I just want to get some tips about turning style etc.I post one OH single and one squan single, those not PBs, those are solves in about time that I solve normally (I would not call them good singles). Also, maybe some YouTube tips :)?
