Any ideas on how to improve?

Did you really get a sub-10 single right before that average? :P
But I would say, you might try to improve your tps a bit, especially on LL.
You also seem to get not really lockups on your LL algs, but it seems more like you get in awkward hand positions that slow you down.
That actually could be a result of a bad combo between your turning style and your cube; if it makes any sense, compared to a lot of fast cubers you seem to move the whole cube around, while others keep the core stable and spin the faces around it. Sorry if that makes no sense at all, it's just the best way I can describe it. I used to have problems like that when I used an Aolong, which it looks like you have some type of really 'flexible' cube like that. When I switched to a Weilong, I found it much easier to control, as it's not quite as 'squishy'.
Sorry if this all makes no sense whatsoever, but hopefully you can get something out of it. :P

The sub 10 was on skewb lol and I will definitely work on tps and maybe try some other cubes. Thanks for the advice!

I agree that your turning style is... I would not say unique but very personal, at least. It looks very fluid at times but yeah, at some others it forces you to make some regrips and stuff that slow you down. Is that 14.50 something normal for you or a very good time? Because I'm around that same average but I get very few 14.xx and I don't have any on cam, for sure.

I think the things you need to practice to improve are more or less the same I need to do. Reduce some pauses at times between cross and F2L and between F2L pairs by focusing on lookahead and also spam TPS much faster in LL by practicing your algs and, maybe find better algs, learn some additional algs for other orientations and also a bit better recognition of PLLs. I also need to improve my combination of AUFing + PLL execution as I still rotate the cube at times to later execute a PLL that ends in a U turn anyway, which I could have canceled with pre-AUFing before PLL. I have not seen anything like that in your Ao5, I just comment it in case it happens to you in other solves. Hope it helps. For me, globally sub-20 is a hurdle I'm having a lot of problems to surpass. I can do lots of 16-17-18 sec solves but I still have those pesky 22-24, even some 25sec solves.

Thanks for the advice. I will try other LL algs and will work on lookahead. I will also find some better ways to finger and regrip and stuff like that. I don't normally get 14.xx but I can usually get a few sub 16s per session. Again thanks for the advice!

Here is a video of a single 4x4 Yau solve.

Any tips for improvement other than look ahead and reducing pausing?

I'm fairly new to 4x4 and I would love some helpful tips. If anybody has any constructive criticism for me please let me know! Thank you!

Hi there, I'm a fairly new cuber, been going for a few months now. I average about 1 min on a 3x3 using CFOP and 4LLL and about 10 secs on the 2x2 with ortega. I am finding it impossible to improve my time any further. I have recorded a few solves on both the 2x2 and the 3x3 to see if you guys can give me any tips and see where I'm going wrong. Thanks alot for any help in advance,
Jack.

Hey Arthur! The biggest thing I see with you solves are that they are very choppy. You see the thing you need to do and you do it as fast as you can. You finish it and you have no idea where the next piece(s) are. Work on making your solves more fluid by slowing down how fast you are turning and be looking out for the next piece.

The other big thing is, like you said, improve your efficiency. To do this, sit down on your couch/bed/at your table or wherever, and solve it VERY slowly. Look for the best way to solve it. The point of this is to break bad habits/ways you solve a case that are not good, and replace it with better solutions.

Other than that, just practice. At you times, it should not take to long before you start seeing big improvements.

Thanks alot,
I noticed watching those videos back (Which was quite helpful by itself) about the choppiness as you put it. I do often find that if i'm just doing slow relaxed, untimed solves that they seem to be really fast.
Thanks for the advice anyway :D

In particular, for your 3x3 solves, the cross is very inefficient. It should be done in 6-8 moves (less than that at times) and you should plan it entirely during inspection so that it takes no more than 2-4 seconds. Try to inspect as long as you need and think of creative ways to do it. Think that maybe a move to put one cross edge can help put another one in a better position (change it from unoriented to oriented). As biscuit said, try to lookahead more, so that you don't have to pause between step and step or between one F2L pair and the next one and try to find more efficient ways to insert them, learn how to insert them in back slots, try to avoid unnecessary rotations, and practice, practice, practice. :)

Hihi

So apparently I average 12 (and I have a source on that), and I wanted to get some tips from people who dose gj at 3x3 but aren't Mollerz

Vid:

About my solving style:
I use a hybrid Petrus-CFOP style with tricks primarily from WV, MW, COLL, ELL, and to a much lesser extent, OLLCP and ZBLL. I am white/yellow-fundamental neutral.

During inspection, I usually try finding a decent 2x2x2 first, and if there aren't any good pairs I try finding a good cross. On occasion I can see the x-cross I'll build, but that's usually with a 2x2x2 start. I like solving my first step ergonomically, and because of it (as well as never learning to solve with cross on D), I usually don't solve cross on D. Sometimes U M2 U' F x' builds a better 2x2x2 than another option, so I'd opt for that. What can be said about this?

Some solvers tell me to ditch building blocks in general for speedsolving, but I take that "advice" kind of like I might expect a Roux solver to react to being told to use CFOP in order to improve.

F2L can be much improved. Sometimes I rotate excessively, and I think it's due to not having lefty training fundamentals earlier in my solving career. I am definitely right-hand dominant for cubing. Rotating too often in F2L might also be due to weak look-ahead, and while I know I have the capacity to look ahead very well (and have gotten 9s and 10s to show for it), I don't know what I need to do differently in order to get closer to looking ahead 100% of solves 100% of the time. I feel like I need a key to unlock good look-ahead on a solve, but I'm not sure if it's just a focus thing or a nerves thing or just a scramble-to-scramble thing.

LS+LL is dodgy because on occasion, I like to incorporate cool subsets of things that I've learned in the past, but in doing so give up the opportunity for a faster LS+LL (and a faster solve) if I had done OLL and PLL. Orienting edges, trying to build tripods (sometimes), and trying to blindly force WV cases are bad, bad habits.

Which brings me to LL. I have intentionally unlearned a few really bad algs for OLL but haven't relearned good ones. I probably only use around 40 good OLLs, and the rest seem like dead ends. For PLL, I still use those wonderful G-perms.

Thoughts?

Try to get all LL-Algs sub1. Learn 2-side PLL Recognition. Try to find the first F2L Pair in inspection. Learn how to build X-Crosses.

Alright so normally you post your average solves and everyone craps on them but I am not asking for crap on my crappy solves. I average around 17.5 seconds and got a 12.61 solve on camera the second solve after I turned it on. I want to know where I am going wrong on one of my smoothest solves I've had (top 5 fastest singles). I know my F2L is a little chopping need to work on less pauses and I am still getting used to the Gans (probable why I'm not averaging 16) and overturn and accidentally turn when I'm not meaning to. Any other thoughts though?
