I habe a question about FMC: in FMC the M-turns count twice because you have to write Rw/Rw' R/R'.
35 STM in not really bad for FMC, but if i write all M-turns to Rw/R i have 6 moves plus. What can i do to reduce this problem?

Here are my solution from the Roux Example Solve Game.

Scramle: B D2 L2 U2 B D2 F R2 B U2 L F2 U2 L D2 L B U' R' F2

y2
L' D2 F R2 F (5)
Rw' U Rw U' R2 U R M2 U Rw'U R (12)
R2 D R' U2 R D' R' U2 R' (9-1)
U2 M U' M' U M' U' M U2 M'(10)

35 STM

Another solution with simultaneously blockbuilding

y2 z
U' F' D' Rw B // left square (5)
R' F' // right Square (2)
U R' U F2 // Left Pair (6)
U M2 U' Rw U2 R' (6) //right pair (6) --> Rw instead of R to get a better LSE and U' Rw U2 instead of U2 Rw U' to get T-CMLL
U2 R U R' U' R' F R F' //CMLL (9)
M2 U' M' U' M U' M2 U' M2 // LSE (9)

35 STM

don't use roux for fmc or somehow change the rules?

Gilles Roux used this method in official FMC many times, and all his solves are between 31 and 39 (in HTM). He even won the European Championship with a 31 move solution. And I know he uses Roux for FMC, I asked him.

Yet I don't know how he does that. He somehow forces his F2B to shorten down the LSE as much as possible to avoid M moves.

I just did today a really good time with a horrible solution.

Really good F2B (super-easy FB), 14 moves. But CMLL and LSE? 36 moves? Really?

Also, a bit later came a very similar situation...

yeah and it could have been much shorter

i also mess up the LSE in speedsolves, that makes me so grrrr

Ugh... just did my first y2/x2 CN ao100, and my time was around 27 seconds.... gonna be a rough few weeks trying to catch up to my main color speed, but I'm sure it will help down the road. Do you guys think I should try to add full y neutrality or is y2 pretty much enough?

i think x/y2 would be better than x2/y because in LSE (EO) and CMLL you'll have the same colors

Isn't x2/y better? So if I solved with yellow top and green front, then I could also be comfortable turning the cube any amount of y turns or using an x2 turn to have white on top.

I think you're backwards. x2 would be yellow or white on top. y2 would be starting with only opposites on left or right (for me blue/green first block). so x2/y would be all 4 colors for first block, and only yellow/white for top/bottom.

Yeah, do you think I should add full y now or is y2 good enough and then just phase in full y later?

There's 24 possible premade edge/corner pairs, and x2/y2 can use 16 (2/3) of them.

Ohhh yes sorry, totally confused. x2/y is obviously better, you should do it.

Is the gap between x2/y2 and x2/y big enough to worry about right now?
i'm only x2/y2 CN because i don't have the dedication to lern x2/y, so i can't really say.
I think it gives you a higher chance of a good first block and this is the slowest part, but is doesn't have to slow you down.
Waffle is x2/y CN

Well, the way I started Roux, I never restricted myself to y2. I started with x2/y neutrality right from the beginning. I highly recommend it because it lets you see different blocks and new ways to solve them. However, I know some people still achieve world class times without y neutrality.

Ugh... I'll try an Ao100 tomorrow with my bad y colors (orange and red)... and x2... we'll see how that goes.

You don't necessarily have to do tons and tons of timed solves. Just do some untimed ones that force you to adjust to the added block possibilities. Over time, you'll get used to it and searching for blocks across y will be second nature.

lol, I kinda dive in headfirst on these things. I started CMLL when I was a 50 second solver. I was looking at advanced block building techniques early on. Now I feel like I have to force the color neutrality, otherwise I'll just keep solving how I'm comfortable.

I agree with this mentality. Whenever I want to do something new I force myself to do it in timed solves and take the worse time, I think it really has helped me ZBLL recognition.

I started with full color neutrality, but by around 30s I switched to x2/y neutrality (8 blocks) to aid in recognition. I think that having 4 possible starting blocks should be enough, though.
Well known users of various block options:
Fixed block: Gilles Roux?
y2 neutral: Big Green, GuRoux, Mitsuki Gunji, Neil Morales
x2/y2: Kirjava
x2/y: Alex, Waffo, Arvind
y: Arcio, Tomoya
Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of these, or add new ones.

i'm not sure what these other notable guys starting blocks are but maybe you can find out: arcio, arvind, neil molares, tomoya yamashita, that's all i can think off the top of my head.
