Hey, this may sound like a dumb thing to bring up for help, but...

Whenever I do the first block, I'm not sure whether I'm thinking too hard or not thinking hard enough. My approach is with the same mindset for the petrus method, which i think makes sense. The problem is that I start to plan it like I'm about to do FMC. Yes, the move count is very low, but my execution times are terrible and usually end up with me trying to get my bearings again. This usually results in me fumbling the cube around trying to remember where I left the peices for the right block. Anyone have advice for this?

As a quick side note: My average time with Fridrich are around 15 seconds, but are about 30 seconds with roux so far. I definitely find it to be a really fun method.

During inspection (take as much time as you need), memorize all the moves for your first block. Practice this by using as much inspection time as you need and executing the solution closing your eyes. After a little practice, you should dramatically increase the speed of your FB and needed inspection.

Finally, Got sub-25 AO100. :D Time to complete CMLL. (Only 10 left)

Sorry to pester, but how much time does it take to build the first block for you experts?

Less than 12 moves on average :)

My Question: I do the blocks like how I do F2L. So should I continue doing this way or there is some Roux specific way ?

I think those who are really good at FB do it in average 8 moves, i do it 10. Usually takes 5 seconds of inspection, sometimes more. don't do it like cfop. try to do it in the fewest moves.

Thank you, that was very helpful. The r M' combo is really fun to do together.

Pushing M with my left ring finger then U2 M2 U2 R U' R' works for me. Not fancy but it gets the job done

I don't exactly qualify as an expert, but I usually use 3-4 seconds. Practice and look-ahead helps.

I can usually do 8-9 moves. No more than 10 unless the scramble is difficult or I can't find efficient enough solutions.

10 should be yer max.

God... I'm trying. Usually I'm around 14 or so on the bad ones. If I have a corner edge done and middle edge pretty edge pretty easily to form, it's closer to 10. I think I have trouble paying attention to the final corner edge while I'm building the 2x2. I think that's probably an important part is comboing those together.

Also, what's a good move count for step 2? I'm averaging between 15 and 20 moves.

I think I remember hearing max 14? That's usually what I hit or slightly above :/

Also, watch Alex Lau's first block vid on cubingworld. He explains some very important blockbuilding principles.

GuRoux: I will try to post a first block avg 12 later just to show my times and for practice of course.

Edit: 4.06 First Block Avg of 12

4.92, 5.63, 3.47, 3.88, 2.90, 4.30, 6.67, 4.73, 3.01, 3.67, 2.75, 4.04

M I do with Ring finger and M2 also left ring with right ring finger. M' I do with left ring finger pushing UB to UF but it takes like 2 sec, so any other way?

I still think you don't get the difference between M and M'. anyway, M' is usually done by pushing BD to DF. with the index finger. M2 as you said. M by pushing DB to BU with the index or middle or r' R.
