the L at the end of the first block was not neccessary :P 9 moves optimal without the L next time rotate, a quick x or x' don't hurt no one
nice sb but i would place my centers on top with a wide move here such as a r instead of an R to bring the white/yellow center to the top :D
but work on lse! :D
i would do something weird an M at the start of LSE then do a pure ELL when i noticed i had ULUR on the bottom M slice then just solve, but it was fast but less efficient

Thanks for the tips. The r at the end of the SB (rather than the R) was really helpful. I need to get into the habit of doing that consistently. However, is doing a cube rotation instead of the last L in the FB really faster? That is something I have never experimented with. I have actually never done a cube rotation during a Roux or ZZ solve. Petrus I cube-rotate a lot but that is because I am bad with Petrus. And for CFOP, only if the PLL perm requires it.

face turns and cube rotations are pretty comparable in speed actually. the L is fine if it is best for your current hand positioning or if it will set you up for a smoother transition to second block.

L is faster than rotating, so he did the right thing. But usually you should orient the cube in the beginning of first block so that you don't need a rotation at the end of it.
